Chapter 8Geoff listened to the mechanical female voice of the GPS in his rented Honda CRV as it directed him. “Turn left here, and it’s three point five miles to your destination.” Geoff was glad to hear he was getting there at last. He was happy to have air-conditioning on the sixty-mile drive from Dallas to Travis’s ranch. Since he’d left the interstate, he had seen nothing but two-lane roads, fences, and tall grass punctuated by an occasional house or small town. The song on the radio was drowned out by the voice of the GPS informing him his destination was on his left. He turned down a long, dusty dirt road and through the tall gate of a rusty iron fence that appeared to stretch for miles on either side of the gate.
