Chapter 12The Florida Keys Geoff sat up in bed and looked first at the clock, then the window, and then down at Travis. The red numbers on the digital clock said it was 6:30 A.M. However, it was strangely dark outside. He got out of bed, careful not to disturb Travis, and threw a robe on as he went to the window. He pulled aside the blinds. The first thing he saw was the dark ink-colored sky and the waves pounding the beach, coming perilously close to the house. In front of the deck was a palm tree with its leaves being pulled straight by the strong wind—it was the wind howling around the corner of the house that had woken him in the first place.
