~RAVENNA~
There was good news and bad news.
The good news was Megan and I were made to share a room which I really appreciated.
The bad news was I also had to share a room with Jasmine and one of her goons. According to what I heard, it usually used to be two in a room but the population this year was more than any other year so they had to adjust the sleeping arrangements.
She glared daggers at me with every chance she got and I tried as much as possible to ignore her as I got settled in.
Luckily, she didn't approach me or say anything. We were all still reeling from shock after what the Alpha King did earlier.
I couldn't even begin to phantom what that girl's mate was feeling right now.
Soon enough, the Alpha King requested for some girls to spend the day with and I wasn't surprised when Jasmine volunteered. She was the only one who didn't seem extremely freaked out by what happened.
As soon as she was gone, I finally felt like I could breathe.
“Are you okay?” Megan asked as she sat down beside me on my bed.
“Hopefully I will be” I assured her and she sighed.
“I was scared for you earlier. The Alpha King is a scary man but damn is he handsome. I might change my mind and actually want to get picked by him” She joked. I knew she was way too scared for that.
His face flashed in my mind and I had to agree with her. I've never found any other man attractive besides Sean but the Alpha King.
“He's trouble and I'm not willing to dabble in that. I just want to live a peaceful life” I told her and she nodded in agreement before sighing as she glanced around.
“This is going to be our home for just two days. After the Alpha King chooses his women tomorrow, we can decide for ourselves then” She said and I frowned.
I had no doubt in mind that the Alpha King wasn't going to pick me. We had already gotten off on the wrong foot but I was scared for Megan.
She was trying to put up a front but I could easily see through her. I placed my hand over hers and smiled.
“No matter the outcome, it's going to be okay. Let's not think too much about it” I said and she smiled slightly before resting her head on my shoulder.
We have only known each other for a short time but I could easily see us becoming good friends.
After a while, we all went down for dinner and I was happy to see that the girls seemed to be in a lighter mood. The thing with us wolves was that death wasn't a new thing to us so it was pretty easy to move on.
As soon as we sat down, Jasmine and the other girls came walking in with bright smiles on their faces.
“I think I'm in love with him!” Jasmine announced, catching everyone's attention. They all began gushing over the Alpha King, immediately forgetting what he had done earlier.
I could see their praises were getting to some of the girls. Even Megan didn't seem so anxious anymore.
“I really hope I get picked tomorrow. I won't mind riding that every minute” One of the girls said with a dramatic sigh and I rolled my eyes.
In what world was it okay for a mind to have a harem of women? I for one wasn't interested in becoming a s*x doll or breeder.
I silently ate my food as they continued talking about him. I excused myself soon after because I didn't want to be part of the conversation and went up to my room.
I got ready for bed and just as I laid down, Megan and the others walked in.
Jasmine snarled at me but she seemed too happy to be bothered with me. She still couldn't stop talking about the Alpha King.
I tried my best to ignore them and go to sleep but that proved to be hard due to how loud she was talking.
When I couldn't take it anymore, I got up and decided to go take a stroll to clear my head.
Despite Jasmine being so loud, I couldn't stop thinking about Sean and wondering what he was doing. Was he thinking about me? Did he regret his decision? Had I been too rash with my decision?
I placed my hand on my stomach with a frown. If I hadn't lost my chances of ever having kids, would things have been different?
I let out a sigh as I glanced up at the sky.
“We should probably head off to bed. We have a long day ahead tomorrow” My wolf reminded me and I sighed then nodded.
I was about to turn around when dread suddenly ran down my spine and I suddenly felt like I was being suffocated.
His scent invaded my nose before I could turn around and even without seeing him, I knew who it was.
There was only one person in our world that had such immense power.
I slowly turned around and there he stood in the shadows with his hands behind his back. He had a dark look in his eyes and as the moon shone down on him, he appeared more dangerous than he did this morning.
I immediately bowed my head to avoid eye contact with him. I was in flight or fight mode.
“Good evening, Your Majesty” I greeted and he didn't reply instantly but I could feel his eyes on me.
“Are you supposed to be out by this time?” He asked after a while and my eyes widened.
“I… I didn't know I wasn't supposed to. I just wanted to clear my head. I'll return back to my room now. Please excuse me” I replied and was about to walk away when he spoke.
“You do not leave unless I permit you to” I uttered and I immediately paused in my steps.
“Yes your Majesty” I responded and we both went silent. I didn't know what was going on in his head and quite frankly, I didn’t know if I wanted to know.
My heart thumped in my chest as he slowly walked towards me. Was I in trouble again? Goddess, he was going to kill me this time.
“Raise your head” He ordered and I did as I was told. Immediately my eyes connected with his, I felt like I was being sucked in just like earlier. It felt like he could see my soul.
I whimpered slightly as he grabbed onto my chin just like he did earlier today, pulling my face closer to him but I barely even passed his chest.
He stared at my face for a while then grabbed onto my hair and silently played with it.
“I used to have a pet Raven once upon a time. At first, it intrigued me. I wanted to know what made it such a bad omen but I immediately got bored of it when I realized it was a fraud. People just blamed it for the wrongs of the world. Do you know what I did to it afterwards?” He asked as his eyes returned to mine. I shook my head slightly.
“Use your words. Do you know what I did to it afterwards?” He repeated and I clenched my fist to stop it from shaking.
“No. What did you do?” I asked and he grinned like my question had pleased him.
“I plucked out all its feathers one by one and slit its throat myself. Then I had its remains for lunch. Let's just say, I enjoyed it better when it was dead than alive” He responded and I frowned.
“Why are you telling me this?” I asked and he leaned in closer. So close that I could feel his breath on my ear.
“Because you remind me of that Raven”...
