"Jason?" I called out through my tears, my hands trembling, legs weak from what I had just witnessed. My boyfriend in bed with another girl? My gaze shifted from him to the girl hiding behind him. I clenched my fist, fury surging as I strode toward them, grabbing the wrist of the woman he'd betrayed me for. And to my shock, it was her. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine he would sleep with my dad's adopted daughter.
"Dahlia?" I scoffed, my heart burning as disbelief morphed into rage. I let out a bitter laugh as they scrambled to dress themselves. It was really her—raven-black hair and those blue eyes that always seemed so innocent. I guess you never really know with some people.
"Of all the women out there… her?. This w***e!" I screamed, my voice cracking as tears streamed down my face.
"Amira, she’s not a whore.. " Jason started, his gaze fixed anywhere but on me. The bitter taste of nausea hit my throat. This was more than I could bear.
I woke up this morning thinking I would surprise him, to look stunning for him. I'd stood in front of my mirror, admiring the way my long auburn hair curled perfectly, cascading down my back. My skin glowed, barely needing makeup. The dress I wore clung to my curves in all the right places, and I had felt like the ultimate temptation, sure that Jason would want me the moment he saw me.
I wasn’t expecting this. Not him. Not her.
Earlier, Tessa had called on video chat, her smile as bright as ever. "Hey!" she grinned, excitement lighting her up like a spark.
"What do you want, disturbing my peace this early?" I replied with an exaggerated eye roll.
"Well, we made a bet. Tasha says you and Jason won’t patch things up. I say you will. I bet you'll make him fall all over again when he sees you in that dress."
"You better believe it," I said with a smirk, letting her take in the little black dress I wore. "Jason can’t resist this."
“Woo ooh, stunning!" she said, fluffing her hair.
"I guess you’re not the only one getting lucky tonight.”
I laughed as Tasha walked by in the background wearing nothing. "Tasha! Clothes, please!" Tessa yelled, smacking her on the butt.
"what!.... We are all girls here!" she yelled back massaging her bum as she glared at tessa who was chucking.
"I have a date...." she said excitedly, I nodded in reply not asking for more details
"Good.... So focus on that, bye!" I said as I could already see his house from a distance.
"wait keep us posted!" she yelled through the phone before I cut the call. I took in a deep breath, unsure what would transpire.
That light-hearted banter felt like a lifetime. How quickly everything had changed.
After Jason's new post on i********: I knew exactly where to him, I had arrived at Jason’s Little beach house expecting to surprise him. Instead, I found myself standing outside a closed door, hearing moans I could barely comprehend. The sound that had once been a comfort to me now turned my stomach. I pushed the door open just in time to hear Dahlia's voice plead, "Please don’t stop!"
I wish I had never seen what was beyond that door.
"Amira," Jason spat, now fully clothed. "Are you stalking me?"
"How long have you been f*****g my dad's fake daughter?" I shot back, my voice breaking under the weight of betrayal.
"That’s not the question I asked," he snapped, his eyes narrowing. His audacity was astounding.
"You’re my boyfriend. You stopped answering my calls—what was I supposed to do?" I choked out, trying to hold back sobs. He rolled his eyes.
"Things change, Amira. You should’ve gotten the hint," he muttered, stepping past me. I blocked his path, desperate for any flicker of remorse, anything to show me that I mattered. But his blue eyes were cold.
"Was it payback?" I yelled. "Because I slapped that woman that day?"
His jaw clenched. "She’s my mother, Amira." His voice was low, menacing.
I laughed bitterly, barely believing this conversation. "And she’s the cook's daughter. You’re choosing her? Really?, Your choosing this b***h?!. "
Jason's expression darkened. “Don’t talk about her mother like that.”
"Like mother, like daughter, that saying is true.... It seems you both f**k around for a living!"I hissed, my blood boiling as I glared at Dahlia, who still hadn’t spoken. "What is it with men and their obsession with disgusting things?"
Finally, Dahlia looked up, her voice soft but resolute. "You can insult me all you want, but leave my mother out of it."
I snapped. My hand flew before I could stop myself, the slap echoing through the room as Dahlia fell to the ground, tears in her eyes. Jason lunged forward, grabbing me around the waist to pull me away, but I wasn’t done.
"Speak again!" I shouted, grabbing a fistful of her hair. Jason tried to pry me off her, but I was too consumed by anger to stop. Dahlia cried out in pain as we struggled, but I wouldn’t let go. Security burst into the room, forcing us apart. Jason stood between us, his gaze filled with disgust.
"Escort this crazy girl out!" he barked. "Maybe you should ask why your father left you and your mother for people like them."
His words hit me like a punch to the gut. Hot tears streamed down my face as the security guards dragged me away.
"Where to, madam?" my driver asked once I was seated in the car, his voice distant as I sobbed.
"Just drive," I whispered.
Hours passed as we circled the city. I cried until my throat hurt, my body exhausted. Eventually, hunger forced me to stop at a small store. I slipped on sunglasses to hide my swollen eyes and went inside, grabbing some chips. My gaze landed on a woman beside me, her clothes shabby, the stench of poverty surrounding her. I cringed, trying to ignore her,
I crunched my face in disgusted by the smell that oozed from her body as I hurried away about to leave only to bumbed into who I was avoiding.
"sorry...." she chocked out making me cover my nose with my palm, she tried to help me pick up the chips that had fallen from my hands, but there was no way I would let her touch what I was about to eat.
"no!....i can manage" I scolded immediately, making her flinch. My gaze suddenly went to her neck, then I noticed the necklace around her neck it looked just like mine.
I touched my throat, finding it bare. My necklace, my mother’s necklace—the one thing I had left of her—was gone. How?. could she have it?
"where is my necklace" I muttered, I never take off the necklace , not even when i shower. did I loose it or is it what's on the old woman's neck. I mean there was no way she could afford such an expensive necklace. I quickly stopped the woman from leaving
"is that yours?" I asked holding her wrist, she stared at me blankly before smiling at me
"my child what do you mean" she answered politely, making me roll my eyes. These poor people be polite with you when they are literally robbing you
"Don't you dare refer me as your child, it's an insult to me" she was taken aback by my words
"Give me my necklace!" I yelled, she frowned.
"my dear, my lovely daughter bought me this necklace at a local jewellery store" she said smiling ear to ear. I laughed dryly repulsed by her lies. This is a rare ruby necklace, it can only be bought in one place in Paris
"what a liar, aren't you to old to steal!" I sneered, disgusted by her audacity. The sales clerk sided with me after I showed photos of myself wearing the necklace, but the old woman refused to hand it over until I threatened to call the police.
She removed it slowly, but before leaving, she looked me dead in the eyes. "Take it, but remember—this necklace comes with a heavy burden."
I rolled my eyes, exhausted from the drama. I paid as i walked to my car only to be stopped by that same smelly hag
"You called me poor. I curse you today—you will know what it feels like to lose everything."
Thunder cracked above as dark clouds rolled in. Ignoring her, I got into the car and went home, I decided to settle for some ice cream, chips and that mystery queen novel, tessa left at my house the last time she came over. At lease it's better than crying myself to sleep. What I didn't know was my life would change drastically after that night. I have to say the book was quite impressive, when I was tired I freshed up and changed into my pj's, opened my drawer to drop my wrist watch only to see a Ruby necklace. I touched my neck and it was on my neck.
"uhhh....it was really that old hag's necklace" I gasped shocked.
Little did I know, my life was about to change forever.
