EPISODE 10:THE ROAD OF SHADOWS

467 Words
Elara could not breathe. Kaelen’s words echoed in her mind, each syllable cutting deeper than claws. Your father was killed by wolves. By Daniel. And I was there. Her knees weakened, and she staggered back, her claws retracting as though her body itself recoiled from him. “You knew,” she whispered, her voice raw. “All this time, you knew, and you said nothing.” Kaelen’s storm-gray eyes burned with regret. “I thought silence would protect you. I thought ignorance would spare you the pain. But prophecy does not allow silence. It demands truth.” Elara’s chest tightened, her heart torn between fury and sorrow. “You betrayed me,” she said, her voice trembling. “You stood by while Daniel killed my father. You let me live a lie.” Kaelen’s jaw clenched, his voice low. “I did not stand by. I fought. But Daniel was stronger. And when your father fell, I swore I would protect you. Even if it meant carrying the weight of his death alone.” Her breath came in ragged bursts. She wanted to believe him, wanted to cling to the bond they had forged, but the scarred man’s warning echoed in her mind: Kaelen hides truths that will shatter you. The forest seemed to close in, shadows pressing against her. “I don’t know if I can trust you,” she whispered. Kaelen’s gaze softened, though sorrow lingered in his eyes. “Trust is not given. It is earned. And I will earn it, even if it takes the rest of my life.” Before she could respond, the underbrush rustled. Figures emerged wolves cloaked in darkness, their eyes gleaming with hunger. At their center stood Daniel, his presence commanding, his smile cruel. “Elara,” he said, his voice dripping with mockery. “The howl within. The prophecy made flesh. How fitting that you should learn the truth now.” Her claws extended, her body trembling with rage. “You killed my father,” she spat, her voice sharp as steel. Daniel’s smile widened. “He was weak. He stood in the way of destiny. And destiny cannot be denied.” Kaelen stepped forward, his storm-gray eyes blazing. “You will not touch her.” Daniel’s laughter echoed through the forest, cold and merciless. “You cannot protect her, Kaelen. You could not protect her father. And when the final moon rises, you will not protect her either.” The pack behind him growled, their voices rising in chorus. The forest trembled with their hunger. Elara’s heart thundered. Betrayal had found her. Truth had shattered her. And now, war loomed on the horizon. The moon glared down, merciless and unyielding. Her howl rose, raw and broken, echoing across the valley. The road of shadows had begun.
