EPISODE 5:THE WEIGHT OF SECRETS

522 Words
The scarred man’s words clung to Elara like chains. You cannot trust them. Kaelen hides truths that will shatter you. His voice was low, ragged, but filled with certainty. Elara’s claws flexed at her sides. “What do you mean?” she demanded, though her voice trembled. The man stepped closer, the firelight of the moon catching the jagged scars across his face. “Your father’s death was no accident. It was betrayal. And the one you trust most, Kaelen, was there.” Her breath caught, her chest tightening as though the air itself had turned to stone. “No,” she whispered. “You’re lying.” The man’s smile was cruel, his eyes burning with knowledge. “Ask him. Ask Kaelen what Daniel did. Ask him why your blood carries prophecy. He will not deny it.” Elara’s heart pounded, torn between disbelief and dread. She wanted to run, to silence the man’s voice, but the truth clawed at her. The pack’s whispers, Kaelen’s silence, the elder’s sorrow all of it pointed to secrets buried too deep. The scarred man’s voice dropped to a whisper. “You are the howl within. But prophecy is not your gift it is your curse. And those closest to you will be the ones to wield it against you.” Before she could speak, he melted back into the shadows, leaving only silence and the echo of his words. Elara staggered, her breath ragged. Betrayal was no longer a whisper. It was a wound. By dawn, she found Kaelen at the edge of the forest, his storm-gray eyes watching the horizon. She approached, her voice sharp with accusation. “Tell me the truth. About my father. About Daniel. About you.” Kaelen’s jaw tightened, his silence heavier than words. Elara’s claws extended, her voice breaking. “The scarred man said you were there. That you know what happened. That you’ve been hiding it from me.” Kaelen’s gaze met hers, storm and fire colliding. “Elara…” he began, his voice low, strained. “There are truths that will break you. Truths I swore to protect you from. But if you demand them, I cannot keep them hidden.” Her heart thundered. “Then speak. Because if you stay silent, you are no better than the ones who betrayed me.” Kaelen’s eyes darkened, his voice heavy with sorrow. “Your father was not killed by hunters. He was killed by wolves. By Daniel. And I was there when it happened.” The world seemed to collapse around her. The prophecy, the pack, the hunters, the mercy she had chosen all of it blurred beneath the weight of betrayal. Elara’s breath came in ragged bursts, her claws trembling. “You knew,” she whispered, her voice breaking. “You knew, and you said nothing.” Kaelen’s gaze burned with regret. “I tried to protect you. But the truth… the truth is darker than you imagine.” The moon glared down, merciless and unyielding. Elara’s howl rose in her throat, raw and broken. Betrayal had found her. And the war within had only just begun.
