I was in my room pacing up and down, “He must be joking, maybe it's one of his tricks to get me scared, Maybe… just Maybe”. I said reassuring myself.
I heard footsteps coming toward my room, I hauled to listen to where they were headed. Unfortunately, it was my room. The door swung open, My sister and my brother came inside.
“You have finally done something useful to this family. My sister Kathryn said. I was dumbfounded. Tears falling from my eyes. “So this is true?” I thought.
“Yvonne, why are you crying? You’ve done nothing. you’ve cleared off Daddy’s debts. Do you even know how much? Fifty freaking million dollars, You did it!. Caleb exclaimed.
“Daddy sold me out, he betrayed me, instead of fighting for your sister, you both are happy, how cruel can you guys be?” I questioned, feeling heartbroken.
Caleb interjected. “How cruel? How cruel is jumping from one man to another and getting pregnant without knowing who the child’s father is and bringing her in for Mom and Dad to bear the embarrassment”.
My emotions were getting the best of me, I cried bitterly. “I was r***d! I shouted. I was r***d trying to protect Dad”.
“Stop! These lies of tears, you haven't done anything good for this family, all you do is bring us shame and embarrassment. First was getting Dad fired, You brought an unwanted pregnancy home and not having a wolf as if it was not enough! “You're an ungrateful piece of s**t Yvonne''. Kathryn pouted.
In the werewolf clan, at 18, we shift into our werewolf form. It's always a thing of pride and celebration. And if you were not able to shift, you would be treated like an outcast. That was how I had been treated, I was so unlucky. The moon goddess had punished me for no just reason and made me a Wolf-less girl.
My pack members hate me, every one of the people living in Crystal Lake pack, except for my only friend Kimberly. She tries her best to protect me and always assures me that I will be alright.
But when?…
"You are a piece of s**t, apart from tormenting me, what else have you contributed to this house? Kathryn, I don't wish my enemies half of what I had been through, but I hope you have a taste of what it feels like”. I let out.
Someone forcefully pushed the door to my room open, and it was my father. He tormented me verbally and physically that I fell on the floor crying for help after seeing blood gushing out of my mouth.
"I can't have you talk to my beloved daughter that way, she's not wayward like you and has a beautiful majestic wolf”. He said looking at Kathryn with so much pride.
“Get ready, tomorrow you shall meet your master, Alexander is no one to play with, he's a dangerous businessman and the illegitimate son of our Alpha, Alpha Urther Albertson. So behave”. My father warned,
The moment he finished talking, he signalled Caleb and Kathryn to follow him out of the room. And they obeyed lol
“Why me? … why me? That was all I kept saying. I was tired of this life, I didn't wrong anyone, life was just unfair to me.
That morning, I cried myself to sleep. I had a dream, and in that dream, I was crowned the Luna of Crystal Lake pack. As I was going over to Luna's seat, I woke up.
“Yvonne, you must be joking, Luna? I laughed weakly well, it will only happen in your dreams”. I pouted.
Buzz! Buzz!
Shit! I cursed, realizing it was time to fetch up Zoey from school. I ran to the bathroom and quickly freshened up.
I applied a little makeup to brighten my face. And rushed out. By the time I got to her school, she was already outside her classroom playing with some of her friends.
The smiles on her face melted my heart, she doesn't deserve the hostility that surrounds her. “I wish she doesn't get to live the kind of life I'm living”. I silently prayed.
"Zoey, sweetie, mommy's here," I called out to her. The moment she caught the sight of me, her face lightened up, and she shouted, "Mommy!" before running into my open arms.
Lifting her, I held her close, she was my greatest source of strength and weakness, and I would move mountains to keep her safe.
Smiling warmly, I inquired, "How was your day, my love?" Her innocent face glared, "I sang a song, mommy."
"That's wonderful! When we get home, you can sing it to me, okay?" She nodded excitedly.
So, we walked to her classroom. "Good afternoon, Mrs Bianca. Zoey's class teacher," I greeted politely.
"Good afternoon, Yvonne," she replied with a friendly nod.
"Could you please show me where Zoey's school bag and lunchbox are?" I asked.
She pointed in their direction, and I picked them up before we headed home, playing and teasing her as we walked home together.
Once we arrived home, I gently led Zoey to her room, carefully picked her up, and carried her into the bathroom for her bath.
“Mummy”, she called "Yes, Zoey?" I replied as she called my name.
Speaking softly, "My friend's mom asked me about the mark on my neck."
Curiosity kicked in, I asked, "What did you tell her, sweetheart?"
Zoey looked at me with wide eyes, confused. "Mummy, I didn't say anything. But mummy, what happened?" she asked with worry.
With a reassuring smile, I explained, "It's nothing, my dear. It's just a birthmark," as I gently kissed her forehead, not wanting her to worry.
After bathing Zoey, I came down to the kitchen to prepare dinner for the rest of the family. We sat down for our evening meal, and surprisingly, it was a peaceful and less troubled dinner for me.
Following dinner, I took care of the dishes, and by the time I finished, Zoey had already fallen asleep on the floor. Gently, I carried her up and put her in her cosy bed. "Sleep well, my love," I whispered, caressing her hair before quietly leaving her room.
Heading to my room, I lay down and slept, feeling very exhausted from the events of the day.
As I woke up that morning, a strange mix of feelings crushed me - a feeling of unease, sadness, and fear. I couldn't shake the haunting words my father had spoken about selling me off, and I desperately hoped it was all just a terrible lie.
While I was trying to shake off my weird feelings, Zoey came into my room, her childish vibes distracted me from my thoughts. "Hey, baby girl! Did you have a good night's sleep?" I asked, playfully tickling her.
Giggling, she replied, "Hah hah! Yes, Mommy, I slept well."
"Today is Saturday, mommy. Can we go to the mall?" Zoey pleaded with her adorable puffy eyes.
I hesitated a little bit before I eventually gave in, saying, "Alright, sweetheart. We'll go to the mall and get some ice cream, okay?"
Her face filled with excitement as she clapped her hands, filled with joy.
Little did I know that this Saturday would be the last time I'd sleep peacefully in our home.
Suddenly, my room's door burst open, and Zoey clung to me in fear. I confronted two tall, mysterious men dressed in black who had walked into my room.
"What's going on? Who are you people, and why are you in my room?" I demanded, my heart beating with fear.
"Pack your bags," the one in sunglasses ordered.
"No!" I firmly refused, but my world shattered when my father entered the room.
With a bitter laugh, my father mocked me, saying, "I told you, Yvonne. Gather your belongings; your 'master' is here."
I responded with a shaky voice, "I don't belong to anybody. If you wanted me out of your house, you could have just asked instead of resorting to selling me off." Tears welled up in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall, trying to stand up for myself.
"Well you are mine now so you will obey your father and get your things, I don't tolerate disobedience”.
He said, shrugging his shoulders with a mean face.
"I can't," I say looking down.
"But you must," Alexander said.
One of the guys dressed in black went towards my wardrobe, gathered my stuff, put them into big bags, and left the room. I guess he went to drop them in their car.
"I'm not going-" I was cut off by being thrown over
someone shoulders
"Put me down," I say hitting on his back as he
walks to the car outside.
"Mommy Mommy" Alexander stopped walking and the guy carrying me dropped me. Probably he asked him to put me down.
I got down and ran over to Zoey. She was crying. I looked at Cole.
"Please I'm not leaving my child, no one will take care of her.
“I'll take care of her, you can go”. My mother chimes in.
“No! I shouted looking at him
"Don't worry you can bring her," He says.
As I carried Zoey and walked into the car with the rest of the people in the Alexander came our house with.
The word “sold” rang in my head. The car quickly sped off, leaving behind the life I had known, and headed to a world I knew nothing about.
