The conversation rolled on, about his girlfriend, his doubts, his disappointment. Each word twisted something inside Chloe, especially when he spoke of the job she had supposedly taken, the one he did not approve of. She kept her face turned toward the river, refusing to let his eyes settle on hers for too long.
"I see...", Jordan was saying, "What about her family, are they aware? Do they mind?"
Niles chuckled. “Of course. I am not a bad person. Not to brag, but I have a good reputation around here. I do my best. I'm sure they will like to have me around." He stood up. "Gotta go now.
