Jordan stared down into her eyes, seeking only God knows what. He couldn’t quite explain. Chloe suddenly winced, clutching a side of her head as a sharp pain shot through. He stepped back in concern. Obviously, she had not been pretending; he had seen the realness of her pain. “What is that?” he asked. She let a few seconds pass, her breathing uneven. “Headache,” she murmured. “I think I have to get to work now.” Jordan gritted his teeth. Seriously?! “Are you planning to die here and frame my family for murder?” Chloe did not answer. She was too engrossed in the throbbing ache, one hand pressed onto her temple, the other braced against the wall for support.
