CHAPTER FOUR: Meeting My Robot
Adrian’s heart raced as he walked through the polished marble halls of his mansion. Today, the “robot” he had waited for so long was finally here. He didn’t know exactly what to expect — only that after weeks of anticipation, he was about to meet the creation that would change his life.
Dr. Harrow and the agent led him into a private room, away from the delivery team. Lina, dressed and ready as the robot, stood perfectly still a few feet away, her posture impeccable. Her black hair gleamed under the soft lights, and her fair skin reflected the warm glow of the room. Adrian blinked.
“This is… your robot,” Dr. Harrow said softly. “We need to give you a few instructions before you interact.”
Adrian nodded eagerly.
“The robot can eat human food,” Dr. Harrow continued, a small smile playing on his lips. “It’s designed to replicate human behavior as much as possible. It can also talk. You may interact verbally, but please do not touch the robot for two months. We are still testing a few systems. If you notice anything unusual, report it immediately. We can control and monitor it from our system, so feel free to explore, speak, and get to know your robot.”
Adrian’s eyes widened. “It… talks? Eats? This is amazing!”
“Yes,” the agent added. “You can call it anything you like. But remember, no contact. Only verbal interaction.”
Adrian couldn’t hide his excitement. “Then you’re my robot,” he said cheerfully, his lips curling into a rare, genuine smile.
The delivery team nodded and quietly left, leaving Adrian alone with the robot — Lina.
At first, Lina said nothing, standing perfectly still, responding only with her eyes following Adrian. She wanted to scream inside, but she kept her face blank. Oh my God… I’m really doing this. Living here. Acting like a robot. Working for him. The thought made her stomach twist. She had never imagined her life would take a turn like this. Yet, she reminded herself — two months. Keep calm. No mistakes. Perfect robot.
Adrian circled slowly, inspecting her with obvious excitement. “Come on,” he said softly, voice warm. “You can speak. You can smile. You can… do human things.”
Lina tilted her head slightly but said nothing. She forced herself to focus. No reaction. Stay robotic. Don’t let him see your shock.
Adrian chuckled. “Okay, okay, we’ll take it slow. Let’s start with the basics. This is my house. My rooms. Everything here is yours… well, yours to observe, of course.”
He led her through the mansion, showing his study, the music room, and the small library where he spent most of his evenings. Lina’s eyes followed, her posture perfect, but she couldn’t hide the slight widening of her eyes at the sheer scale of the rooms. I’m really going to live here? This is insane.
“You can ask me questions too,” Adrian said lightly. “I don’t bite… well, unless you try to touch me.”
Lina’s lips twitched, almost smiling, but she straightened immediately. Adrian noticed anyway and laughed softly.
After exploring a few rooms, Adrian led her to a space filled with his old toys, a place where he had spent hours imagining and creating worlds in his mind.
“This is where I used to… imagine a lot of things,” he said softly. “And now… I want you to see it. Feel free to look around. You’ll understand me better this way.”
Lina moved carefully, stepping precisely, observing everything. She tried to maintain her “robot” persona, but curiosity gnawed at her. She couldn’t help wondering, Who is this man? Why is he like this? What’s he thinking?
Her thoughts were interrupted when Dr. Harrow and the agent handed her a small folder. Inside were her instructions for the day, and then a note about her salary. She froze. Wait… I’m actually going to be working for him? Living here? Acting like a robot… for money?
Her pulse quickened. Shock and disbelief filled her chest. I can’t believe this. My life… this is insane.
But she forced herself to stay calm. Two months. Perfect robot. No mistakes. She tucked the shock behind a blank expression. Adrian couldn’t see it. He couldn’t know.
Next, Adrian led her outside to the swimming pool. The water sparkled in the sunlight, cool and inviting. He chuckled.
“Oh! One rule here — don’t ever enter. Water’s dangerous for you… but it’s nice for me. I like watching it sparkle.”
Lina nodded, keeping her face neutral, though a small smile threatened to slip. She thought, This man… he’s so different. Rich, funny… a little strange. But fascinating.
Adrian laughed softly, his excitement infectious. “Now, let’s see the garden. These plants… I’ve spent years on them. You’ll see. My robot, you’ll help me observe everything, understand the flow of the house.”
They walked slowly, Adrian talking and explaining everything — the flowers, the layout, the fountains, the sunlit paths. Lina listened quietly, her “robot” face on, but inside, her curiosity grew. She wanted to know more about him — how he thinks, why he built this mansion, why he isolates himself.
By the time they returned inside, she felt strangely… alive. Acting like a robot was harder than she imagined, especially when Adrian was warm, funny, and clearly excited about her presence.
Adrian’s laughter echoed through the halls as he continued showing her rooms, explaining routines, and teasing her gently. Lina bit back a laugh, keeping her face neutral, but inside, she was smiling. She was learning about this strange, fascinating man… and secretly, she couldn’t wait to see more.
