The tour of the ranch led to a variety of trails, some that stayed on the Woodruff property and some that wound up into the mountains. It also swung close to the ranch’s small herd of cattle. When the group stopped at the fence to watch, Cole announced they’d be moving the herd to a different pasture in the morning. Any guest with an “urge to herd” was welcome to join the cattle drive. Alex perked up and sat tall in the saddle at that news. Jack smiled. Bringing the boy to the dude ranch had been the right thing to do.
Among other points of interest, Cole showed them the best spot on the river to fish, the best swimming hole, and finished up the tour by guiding them to the best picnic site, where the crew of ranch hands had lunch ready to serve. They stopped on the edge of a pretty meadow
