Chapter 10: The Palace Whisperer

1355 Words
Axia’s POV It had been three days since I last saw the King. Three days since we… I couldn’t even finish the thought. Every time I remembered what happened, a rush of heat travelled through me, from my head all the way down. It was terrifying. The pleasure, the sweetness of Elyan, the way being near him made me forget everything I had promised myself. That was why I stayed away. I claimed I was sick with the flu, which allowed me to remain in the maidens’ chambers for a while. But hiding from him didn’t make him disappear. If anything, my thoughts about him consumed me. There was no way I could stop thinking about him. I screamed as I tossed and turned on my bed. “This is ridiculous.” If I didn’t figure this out soon, I was going to die of isolation and starvation inside this palace. I couldn’t even face Ava. She had killed me and had stolen the love of my life, she had taken the crown that should have been mine. And yet, somehow, facing her now felt strange. Forbidden, almost. And somehow, that made everything even more tempting. I was stuck in a loop. Do I run away? Or do I give in to whatever was happening between Elyan and me? Wasn’t this what I wanted? Why was I running away? My thoughts drowned me as I picked up my last slice of wheat bread. I stared at it before taking a bite. “Maybe if I stay here much longer, everyone will forget about me.” I chewed slowly. “Maybe I’ll be able to live a little longer.” I sighed. “I don’t know.” Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. I froze. “Who is it?” I asked. “It’s me.” My heart sank…No. Don’t tell me it’s who I think it is. Oh, heavens. Why? I scrambled out of bed. My hair was a mess, and I was still in my nightwear. It was far too revealing, and I didn’t have time to change. I grabbed my robe, hurriedly wrapped it around myself, and opened the door. And there he was — Elyan. The very man I had spent the last three days running away from stood right in front of me. And he was wearing the most beautiful grin I had ever seen in my life. My heart stopped. Then it started beating twice as fast. Oh, no. I was in trouble. “Your Majesty.” I bowed. “Elyan.” I looked up. “When we’re alone, you call me Elyan. I forbid anything else.” “What are you doing here?” I asked, pulling my robe tighter around myself. He grinned. “I haven’t seen you in three days. I thought you were avoiding me.” My cheeks burned. “I was sick.” “For three days?” “It was a bad flu.” He stepped closer. “Was it?” I swallowed. “What are you implying?” His eyes held mine. “That perhaps you haven’t stopped thinking about what happened between us.” My breath caught. “Stop.” I backed away. “This is the maidens’ dormitory. If anyone finds you here, I’ll be in trouble. My roommate could return at any moment.” I said. He took another step. “Then come to me when I call for you.” His voice dropped to a whisper beside my ear. My heart fluttered. “And if I don’t?” I barely managed the words. He pulled back just enough to look into my eyes. “Then I’ll come looking for you.” My pulse raced. “Elyan…” His smile returned. “You can keep running, Axia.” He paused. “But you know I’ll find you.” He leaned closer, his lips almost brushing my neck. Then he stopped. His eyes closed for a moment, and I watched his jaw tighten. It was almost painful. As if some invisible force was pulling him toward me, and he was fighting it with everything he had. He stepped back. “This is becoming impossible,” he murmured. Before I could ask what he meant, he pulled a folded letter from inside his coat and placed it in my hand. I looked down at it. There was an address written on the front. My heart stopped. I knew that place. It was the same room. The room he had taken me to after we drank at the pub. In my other life. I looked up at him. “What is this?” “I’ll tell you when I want you to come.” His eyes held mine. There was so much longing in them that my chest tightened. “I want you to come, Axia.” I couldn’t find the words. So I simply nodded. He gave me one last look before turning toward the door. Then—Thud. “Ow!” Tilya stumbled into the room, nearly falling onto the floor. She looked up. “Your Majesty—” Elyan immediately put a finger to his lips. “Shhh.” Tilya’s eyes widened. She nodded quickly. He walked past her and disappeared down the corridor. Tilya slowly stood, she looked at the door…then at me. Then back at the door. Her mouth fell open. “Okay.” She folded her arms. “Start explaining. Now.” ———————————————————————- Ava’s POV I would be a fool to say I hadn’t noticed something strange about my husband. The first night we were together, everything had felt perfect. It felt natural, right. But something had changed. For the past week, Elyan barely looked at me. He hadn’t touched me. Hadn’t kissed me. I felt like a piece of royal property—dressed beautifully, displayed before the kingdom, and expected to smile. But I wanted more.I wanted love, desire…I wanted power.. And I always got what I wanted, no matter the cost. I smiled to myself as I sank deeper into the bath, a glass of red wine in my hand while a musician played softly nearby. My favourite maiden approached and leaned toward my ear. “Your Majesty,” she whispered. I glanced at her. “I think I know why the King has been so preoccupied.” My smile disappeared, “Very well, my beautiful.” I looked at her with a knowing smile. “You’re wolf-blooded, just like me. You would never betray your kind… or your Queen.” She immediately bowed her head. “Anything for you, my Queen.” “Good.” I smiled. “Come in.” She removed her robe and slipped into the flower-filled bath beside me. I handed her a glass of wine. “Now,” I said, “tell me.” She leaned closer. “It seems the King has found a certain maiden he fancies.” My fingers tightened around my glass. “A maiden?” “Yes, Your Majesty.” “And?” “She’s one of your ladies-in-waiting.” I stared at her. “Do you know who?” She hesitated. “No. Not yet.” My eyes narrowed. “But you’ll find out.” She nodded. “And when I do, you’ll be the first to know.” I smiled. “And when I do, she wouldn’t be breathing for too long.” “Perfect.” She responded, staring into my eyes with a grin. I took another sip of wine. “Now you know what to do.” She bowed her head. “Yes, my Queen.” She then went down into the water and she gave pleasure to my inside, licking it like a juicy pomegranate. I let out a moan, touching my breasts as I felt more pleasure. It consumed me until I climaxed. I felt so much better after that. “Whoever you are, I will find you.” I thought to myself.
