My mind went blank for a moment. I could hear Dimitri's voice, but his words were all scrambled in my head. When I zone back in, I can hear him calling my name.
"Serena? Serena?" He tries to touch my cheek but I slap his hand away. "You...did you just say you're engaged? As in to be married?" I need to hear him say it again to make sure I heard him right. He didn't say anything. He looked at his feet, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Tell me you're lying. Tell me this is some sick joke, Dimitri...please." I was pleading even though it clearly was not a joke. The man I have been in love with for the last six years was engaged to another woman.
"Serena, I am so sorry I didn't tell you sooner. I wanted to, I just didn't know how to." He tried to hold my hands but I pulled away from him.
