"Serena, my dear. Your twenty third birthday is coming up next week. Don't you wish to celebrate this year? You have not had a party since the year your father died." I sighed as I watched my grandmother get her hair done. "Grandmother, no. I never liked those parties. They were always full of a bunch of stuffy, coincided, uptight ding bats that I had nothing in common with. Now that I am not forced to, why would I throw one for myself?" She waved the servant who was finishing up her hair away so that she could turn and scowl at me. "Serena, I think it will be good for you. I know why you did not marry Prince James all those years ago, but he is not the only eligible bachelor in the region.  You never know. You might meet the man of your dreams at the party. You need only give it a try.
