Chapter 22 Ada and Sam stood within a stand of trees overlooking New Brunswick. ’39 had left them half an hour before and they watched as he furtively walked the stockade perimeter in the approaching gloom of evening, invisible to the careless guards. When he reached the point where he was nearest to the Shuttle he stopped and moved his metal head to and fro as he located and tuned into the Shuttle’s internal communication network that had never shut down since the original landing. Soon it was the dark of night and the last snows of the winter began.
