Several men were injured. Xavier's heavy breathing stimulated Yasmine's brain. She knew he was injured. The dark red blood blooming on his shirt was alarming, but he had protected her from harm.
If it weren't for protecting her... No, she couldn't be so depressed. Her knight had said he would protect her and wouldn't let anyone hurt her again. He cherished her, and he was keeping his promise.
So she had to cheer up, try to keep up with him, and get through this.
Xavier felt his arms lighten. He turned his head and found Yasmine trying to steady herself. Her bright eyes flickered with a familiar light, serious and firm.
His heart skipped a beat. He couldn't help but reach out and rub her hair.
"I'll take you and Billy home safely," he said in a low voice.
Yasmine smiled and nodded.
