Chapter 5 Shattered Bonds

820 Words
Yasmine was hurled into the back seat with force, and Hayden followed suit, pressing down on her. "What the hell are you doing?" Yasmine fought back in fury. "Why didn't you just head home after being rescued? Why did you linger at the Quinlan Mansion?!" Hayden's grip on her wrist was unforgiving as he interrogated her with a scowl. "What?" Confusion and disbelief were evident in Yasmine's eyes as she turned to face him. "You embarrassed the whole Yancey family in front of Xavier, you b***h!" His disregard for her safety during her kidnapping was apparent, and now, he audaciously placed the blame on her. "He was the one who rescued me. I was unconscious. And I didn't know anything!" Yasmine defended herself vehemently. "Another lie?! I knew you thought I wasn't capable of saving you, so you went to him!" Hayden's rage was fueled by the humiliation he had experienced at the Quinlan Mansion. "Showing up at the Quinlan Mansion in your soaked clothes?! How dare you! You're such a disgrace to my family!" "I did not!" Yasmine countered. However, the recollection of their intimate encounter, the tactile memories of their skins brushing against each other, sent a tingling sensation through her. "What are you thinking with me right in front of you?!" Hayden's slap was a sharp rebuke before his hand brutishly invaded Yasmine's privacy. He was trying to conduct an examination on her for any signs of tampering. "What were you up to just now, huh? Did he have his way with you?" His intrusion was harsh and unyielding. Yasmine's cry of pain was desperate as she tried futilely to push him away. The fleeting desire stoked by Xavier was now thoroughly extinguished, leaving room only for the memory of Xavier's domineering tenderness. The man who had his fingers inside her, Hayden, was nothing but a source of hurt. "Hayden Yancey, how despicable are you!" Yasmine trembled as she tried to compose herself. Her lips quivered, and her hands tightly clenched. With a deep breath, she shot him a glance filled with pure disdain. "How could I have ever agreed to marry someone like you?" "So, who is it that you want?!" Hayden growled. His hold on her wrist was relentless, and his entire weight bore down on her. "You'd better behave yourself since you still carry the title of my wife. Don't you dare bring me any trouble!" As Yasmine curled up, tears cascaded down her cheeks. At that moment, Hayden saw a tragic beauty in her. His demeanor shifted, and he began to undress. "Guess I can meet these s****l needs of yours." Right before Yasmine's spirit could crumble entirely, Hayden's phone rang abruptly. "Hello?" His irritation at being interrupted was evident. "Hayden, darling, could you please come to the hospital to see me?" The deliberately sobbing voice of a woman resonated through the phone, filling the silent car. Yasmine recognized the voice. It belonged to the woman Hayden had been with during her kidnapping. "What's the matter, Isabella?" Hayden's concern was immediate as he disengaged from Yasmine. Isabella, Isabella Yates. That woman was Hayden's first love. The realization hit Yasmine that this was the woman Hayden had always truly loved. Following Isabella's unheard words, Hayden abruptly dragged Yasmine out of the car. Left by the roadside, her clothing torn, Yasmine was a picture of abandonment. "Find your own way home. And don't let me catch you tarnishing my reputation again!" With those final words, Hayden sped away, leaving Yasmine behind in his wake. ***** The following day, at the hospital, Diana Shaw, the charge nurse looked troubled. As Yasmine's good friend, she suggested, "Yasmine, you might want to check out the inpatient ward." "What's the matter?" After a long day of attending to patients, Yasmine felt every bit of her exhaustion. Each injury on her body throbbed painfully. "Well, your husband... he's in ward 301, taking care of a female patient, Isabella Shaw." Diana sighed, her gaze downcast. "I think she's intentionally trying to provoke you. She's specifically asked for you to be her attending doctor," said Diana. Yasmine tried to appear engrossed in a medical file and fought to keep her cool. "Oh, is that so?" At that moment, another nurse entered, slightly embarrassed. "Dr. Yancey, the patient in ward 301 is insisting on seeing you in person." "That's Isabella Shaw." Diana hinted with a nudge. With a sigh of resignation, Yasmine responded, "Got it. I'll go right now." Holding the medical file, Yasmine stepped into ward 301 and instantly frowned at the sight that greeted her. Diana was right. Isabella was trying to provoke her. The woman, Isabella, in the bed seemed perfectly healthy. She was even caught up in a heated kiss with Hayden, looking every inch the loving couple. Yet Hayden, caught off-guard by Yasmine's arrival, quickly separated from Isabella and stood up and questioned, "What are you doing here?"
