A surge of fear coursed through Alexa’s veins, her heart pounding against her chest while the woman’s voice sounded from a distance as her mind continued to race, trying to make sense of everything.
Something was terribly wrong. A gnawing emptiness echoed within her, and panic seized her, her hand flying instinctively to her neck, feeling something clamped around it. Her trembling fingertips met the cold metal and traced the contours of the collar encircling her throat while her heart beat faster and faster.
