The Epilogue

348 Words
Epilogue I: The Garden of Ashes Twenty-five years later. Children play beneath the weeping willows where Edran and Seren rest. They say the trees hum lullabies when it rains, and if you sit still long enough, you can hear whispers in the breeze. A young scribe kneels at the foot of their twin statues, copying the inscription into a leather-bound book. She pauses, tracing the face of the queen. “You changed everything,” she murmurs. “You made history bleed.” Behind her, an old man—blind, bearded, wrapped in rags—leans on a cane. “You think it ended there?” he rasps. “You think love like that dies in dirt?” She turns. “Who are you?” But the man is already gone. Where he stood, a single black feather falls. It doesn’t touch the ground. Epilogue II: The Knight of No Name In the farthest north, where light dies early and shadows stay longer, a black horse rides the cliffs. Its rider wears no sigil. No armor. Just a tattered cloak and a sword rusted from time, not blood. Each village he passes, he asks one question: “Have you seen her?” No one knows who he seeks. No one dares stop him. But some swear they saw his reflection in a frozen lake once… …and it wasn’t a man. It was a woman. Wearing a crown of thorns and a tear made of fire. Epilogue III: The Last Vow Deep beneath Eld Hollow, where no torch stays lit and even silence fears to dwell, the shattered mirror still stands. Cracked. Empty. Except for once a year—on the night the stars burn red. A girl appears in the reflection. Ashryn. But she doesn’t look lost. She’s smiling. And behind her, walking through the fog, are two figures: A queen in a traveler’s cloak. A knight in black steel, no longer sealed. They do not speak. But in their silence, the mirror does. Three words etched by unseen hands: “They chose love.” And then it vanishes.
