Storm Inside - Chapter 6

870 Words
The snow fell heavier now, blanketing the world in pristine white. The cabin felt like an isolated sanctuary, a warm bubble where time slowed—and yet, the storm inside Luna Maria’s heart raged louder than any winter wind. She sat by the window, sipping hot chocolate, watching the snow cling to the trees. Her mind kept drifting to Dominic Vale. To the way his gaze had held hers last night, to the brush of his hand, to the words he hadn’t fully said but that burned in her memory. She tried to shake it off—but every memory made her pulse faster. A knock at the door startled her. Her stomach tightened. “Luna… it’s me,” said a familiar, smooth voice. She turned. Ethan Gray. Standing outside, snowflakes caught in his hair, coat dusted with white, hands shoved into his pockets. His dark eyes searched hers, pleading. Dominic, sitting by the fire, stiffened immediately. He rose as if pulled by a thread, his jaw tight, his movements sharp. “I told you to stay away,” Dominic said, voice low but steady. His shadow fell over Luna, protective and possessive all at once. Ethan took a step forward, undeterred. “I’m not here to fight. I just… I need to explain. Please, Luna. Just a minute.” Luna’s heart thumped erratically. She wanted to hear him out, to find closure—but the fear of what that might mean, and the intensity of Dominic’s stare, held her frozen. Dominic’s dark gaze bore into Ethan’s. “You don’t get to explain anything. Not to her. Not here. Not ever.” Ethan hesitated, clearly frustrated. “Dominic… I’m not your enemy. I—” “You’re the reason she’s hurt,” Dominic interrupted, stepping closer, inches from Ethan. “You’ve had your chance. She doesn’t need you. And you certainly don’t get to threaten her peace.” The tension crackled like the fire in the hearth. Luna felt her pulse in her throat, the air thick with unspoken emotions and barely restrained desires. Dominic’s protectiveness made her feel safe—and dangerously drawn to him. Ethan’s shoulders slumped. He glanced at Luna, his voice softening. “Luna… please. I didn’t mean for anything to happen. I was—” “Stop,” Dominic’s voice was sharp now, cutting through the room like ice. “I said enough.” Luna’s gaze flicked between the two men—one who had betrayed her, one who had ignited feelings she barely understood. Her chest felt tight, her thoughts scattered. “Dominic…” she whispered, stepping slightly closer to him, seeking refuge in his presence. He turned toward her, his eyes dark and soft at the same time. “I won’t let him hurt you. Not now. Not ever.” The firelight danced across his face, highlighting the subtle tension in his jaw, the intensity in his eyes. He reached for her hand again, this time deliberately, holding it like a lifeline. Luna’s breath hitched, her heart pounding. “I… I don’t know what to do,” she admitted, voice trembling. “I feel… so many things, and I—” Dominic silenced her with a soft touch to her cheek, his thumb brushing lightly across her skin. “You don’t need to know everything right now,” he whispered. “You just need to feel safe. That’s all that matters.” The heat from his hand, the closeness of his body, the restrained desire in his gaze—it was overwhelming. Luna’s resolve weakened, and for a moment, she considered leaning into him, letting herself feel what had been building for weeks. A sudden sound—the crunch of snow on the porch—snapped them apart. Both Dominic and Luna turned. Ethan had lingered, unwilling to leave. “Luna… please. Just one conversation,” he said, desperation creeping into his voice. Dominic’s gaze flared, possessive and protective. “No. Not here. Not now. You will leave. Or I will make sure you do.” Ethan hesitated, clearly realizing he was no match for Dominic’s intensity. With a frustrated sigh, he finally retreated into the snowy night, leaving only the soft echo of his footsteps behind. The cabin fell silent again, save for the crackling fire. Dominic’s hand lingered near Luna’s, and slowly, hesitantly, he pulled her close, wrapping an arm around her shoulders in a protective, possessive embrace. Luna leaned into him, her face brushing his chest, the warmth of his body seeping into her. “Dominic… I…” she whispered. “I know,” he said softly, pressing a kiss to the top of her head, just barely touching her lips. “You don’t have to say it. I can feel it. And I feel it too.” For the first time, Luna allowed herself to breathe. Safe. Desired. Conflicted. But undeniably, dangerously alive. Outside, the snow continued to fall, silent and untouched. Inside, the fire burned brighter than ever, mirroring the storm of emotion, desire, and unspoken confessions now raging between Luna Maria and Dominic Vale. And somewhere in the snowy darkness, Ethan Gray’s presence still lingered—a reminder that the path ahead would be anything but simple.
