CHAPTER FOURTEEN BLOOD RAN INTO HIS eyes, making it hard to see. Godric stepped onto the downed tree and held on tight. It had finally stopped raining but the creek still raged, uncontrolled through the woods. He climbed over the larger branches until he reached the next foothold, a ridge of large, fairly flat rocks. A thin sheen of water washed over the top of the rocks but Godric thought he could navigate them despite the rush of water. He made it to the third rock, which was four feet away from the second one, before his foot slipped out from under him. He lost his balance and went down, smacking down hard onto the rock’s surface and knocking the wind out of his lungs.
