AS SOON AS LIGHT BROKE over the trees they set out. Godric had worked with Andy and a couple of others to create a search grid and most of the encampment joined the search for Dolfe.
They spread in a leading arc, the outside, back edges of the search grid following the road on one side and the creek on the other. Godric and Dini took the center grid and the lead.
It didn’t take them long to realize two things. One, though they saw clear evidence of Noire’s mad dash through the woods the night before, it quickly became clear that the big horse did not follow a straight path to the camp. And two, Dolfe hadn’t been dumped nearby, which meant, given the time he’d ridden out the day before, Godric judged he could be as much as ten miles away.
