CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE THE VEGETATION RUSTLED and Dini saw the whip of a long, golden tail with black tufts on the end. Realizing there was no hope that the cougar would pass her by unnoticed, she stood slowly, keeping her gaze on the waving grasses a few yards away. Cougars rarely attacked humans. And when they did it was because they were at eye level, running away, or threatening either the cougar or its young. Dini didn’t intend to put herself within any of those parameters. If she held her ground, kept her wits about her, and didn’t make a target of herself, the cougar should leave her alone. She hoped.
