24 “NIKKI.” I JERKED awake to find that the water had cooled considerably. I’d fallen asleep. Had someone called my name? The hair stood up on the back of my neck. I slowly looked toward the window, terrified I’d see something. Fortunately, nobody was there. Sighing with relief, I let out some of the cold water, replaced it with hot, and finished bathing.
