The Stupid Things We Do

1607 Words
Don't do anything stupid, Amber" The voices that kept penetrating my door was my Mums and Tumps; the door kept banging behind me; but I turned deaf ears, till I heard them no more. I had slept off completely, and by the time I woke up, it was past dinner time. I opened my door, peeping to see if anyone was still up, the door hit an object, and I came out to see my dinner laid out in front of my room. Feeling famished, I took the plates in and devoured the pasta, which was my favorite, and not minding it's coldness before others. I ate everything the plate had to offer, took my laptop, and began to google search just how much New York University tuition fees were. $23, 000!! What in the world?? I'm sure my high school tuition doesn't cost half of that or does it? The tuition fees are damn expensive. That should probably be the reason why Tump didn't go there. I mean, who doesn't want to go to New York University!? I still won't back down from this. Since, I am homeschooled, I should probably get a part-time job. I checked just how much a part-time high school student can earn per year. $20, 000 This can pretty much solve it. I could work for a year, save the money and go to college. I couldn't wait for the morning, so I could start looking for a part-time job. I will show Mum, that I can be responsible and take care of expenses too. I jumped on my bed, happily, plugged in my airpods, and slept off again. ..... The next morning came, and I scrambled out of bed, took my bath, dressed up and took my school bag along. I got to the living room, and saw Mum, who tried to switch things up with me but ignored her instead. " Thanks for last night dinner. " I said, leaving the house before Tump could get a hold of me. I searched around, entering whatever store, shop I could find, but none of them wanted a part-timer. Some establishments were closed down because of the recession. The last shop, I entered was a bakery, though I knew nothing about baking; I was willing to try, so as to get some money, but the owner had other plans. " You're here for... " the male owner asked. " A part timer job" I answered politely. " Um.. it's kind of hard to get a job these days, and I don't need a part timer right now, but I'll employ you" He said, twitching his lips from side to side. " I really don't know how to bake sir, but I am a fast learner" I added. " I see, but you have to do.... " The old slag was a p*****t, and had tried touching me inappropriately. I had pushed him way from me before I had a chance to run out of his shop, but not before he shouted. " No one will employ you as it is. " on top of his lungs bitterly. I should have called in the police onto him, but I just wanted to go back home. Getting a job and it's hassles; I have seen things I never thought I could, just because I wanted to get a job. The recession was almost making matters complicated, as it kept getting critical. Can someone just make this recession end. Does this even apply to wealthy people in the state? I bet, they have their stuff all figured out. Laying off people and not giving a f*ck about their families. We never had to do all of this when Mum still had her job, though it wasn't too convenient. It was not tough as well. Working as a paralegal assistant wasn't much of a pay, but it held us together, and I began to wonder how much hurt my words might have caused as I made my way back home. I stood at the door, watched Mom as she walked towards me and ran to hug her. She hugged me back, stroking my hair. " It's okay baby" she assured. " Mom, I'm sorry" I pleaded, hugging her the more. " I know, it's not your fault" " I'm willing to wait, Mom. It's not your fault, either." I asserted. My sister stood with her hands seated comfortably at her waist as she stood in the middle of the room, staring at us. Mum finally released me, while she both went up to my room including Tump, where I explained all of my experience to them. Tump was laughing all through. That sly! " Nothing is actually funny, Tump, you do know that." I said battered at her expression. " I thought you wanted to become a boss CEO over night. I told Mom not to stop you, and let you do whatever you deemed right. Just like I knew your prodigal a*s would come back begging to be taken in again," she replied in sarcasm. " Mom, I'm sorry Tump, too. But, you'll get yourself into trouble if you laugh again. "I issued a stern warning to her. " I hope you have a load of dollars in that bag of yours Cause you can't come back in here without something to show for it or else you're in for another round of laughter," she laughed again, making me want to sniff the life out of her. Mom accepted my apology and left the room to prepare dinner, but Tump stayed, closing the door to make sure Mom was gone. " Mom is actually going through a hard time, and you should not be the one to put her in a tight position. I have a series of things I'd like to ask her, but I can't because of her losing her job." Tump babbled. " I never meant any of those. Besides, That was before I knew it was really hard to get a job. " I grumbled. " I can feed you in on an important information" she divulged, and I listened like my life depended on it. " Graduating from Onyx High with some good recommendations from the right people can grant you a fully funded scholarship at New York University. It's just a three spot for the most qualified candidates. Don't ask me why I didn't apply for it," she warned. " Why didn't you apply for it? " I dared to ask. " I told you not to" she heckled. " Why? Because you weren't qualified? " I taunted her, knowing she was going to burst out her wagging tail at me. " I knew you to be an evil baby sister, and now I regret not strangling you to death" " You're obviously angry now, You can at least, die before I do." I said, running out of the room while she chased after me. All I had to do was transfer to Onyx High and get my hands on the most coveted scholarship into my dream college. My sister and I spent the summer going at loggerheads with each other. She was a pain in my a*s; I was a thorn in her flesh. While my mom engaged in odd jobs, just like she said, we helped with the chores mostly. " Amber, you have to do the dishes tonight" Tump stated. " Me.... I remembered doing a chore not long ago" " A chore! You only moved a box upstairs. " " Moving a box that's twice your size is a chore, ma'am. Besides, what chore have you engaged in since the beginning of the day? " " You don't get to ask me that question. Just do the dishes" " Why? You scared? You scared I got you on this? Because, you know, you have done nothing. " The hassle ended with Mom doing the dishes, as we had screamed on top of each other's head, only to come back into the kitchen to find the plates washed. Then and there, it was like we got frozen, as we both calmed down our asses, going into our respective rooms. Mom had completed the transfer procedure; though she seemed a bit uncomfortable about it. She wouldn't let me know what was at stake. My room door opened and Tump let herself in, enjoying the serenity and touching whatever she could lay her hands on, while I watched in annoyance. " Don't you touch my stuff. Don't you get tired of fighting? I've always known about troublesome younger sisters, but you're the older one here and yours is top notch. You're just a witch. " She gave her annoying laugh, and sat on my bed beside me. " I'll be leaving tomorrow. You must keep in touch, little witch. " " You're leaving? " I asked as my heart sank ten feet deeper. " Yes, Little witch, I thought you wanted me gone. " No matter how much we fought, Tump was still very dear to me. She had stayed with Mum through the transfer process and made sure it went unhinged. She grabbed me closely, gently slicked my hair, while Beanie watched with jealously. Little Witch, as she always called me. I was always and will be mean to her, but I'm still the little sister, she can never replace. " I have a favor to curry " I asked her. We spent the whole night playing video games in her room, and I wondered just how she would be able to travel in that state.
