“SO, WHAT WERE YOU AND Mackenzie talking about at lunch today?” I asked Sonny at the end of football practice, Friday afternoon.
“I was just asking her about Kara.”
I wasn’t sure if I believed that’s all they were talking about. Mackenzie had looked my way a few times.
“What did she have to say?”
“That Kara won’t talk to me because of your little bet with Gus.”
I groaned. “Sorry, Man. I had a feeling it was that.”
“Yeah, me too.”
“I wish there was something I could do. Mackenzie won’t even talk to me.”
“I know.”
“I don’t know what to say. I feel like s**t about everything.”
I’d really f****d up. It made me wonder if I would have been better off not telling Mackenzie about the bet. But then Gus would have tried pressuring her to have s*x. That was much worse.
