MACKENZIE SMELLED AND looked amazing. I commented on it and she looked a little embarrassed, so I changed the subject. To something that had been on my mind all week.

She shrugged. “Nothing.”
I watched as she pulled off a piece of sausage from her slice of pizza. “You looked like you were having a good time together on Monday. At Herschel’s.”
