CHASE AND I RAN INTO Jason and Mattie in the parking lot after school.
“Where’s your car?” he asked Chase.
“In the shop.”
Mattie smiled coolly. “So, you’re giving him a ride, I take it?”
I nodded.
“You lucked out. Finding a girl with a car who can drive you around town, Chase,” Mattie said. “That turned out well.”
He put his arm around me. “I’m getting a loaner soon.”
Jason twirled his keychain around his finger. “That’s cool you got your Mustang in so quickly. Where’s it at, Lennys?”
“Of course,” Chase replied.
“So, what are you two up to?” Jason asked.
“Not much. I’ve got to work,” Chase replied.
