We had finally settled into one of the guest rooms. The four beds inside it, each simple and modest, were lined up against the stone walls of the Dark Moon Pack’s guest quarters. Wendell, Doreen, Natalia, and I all exchanged satisfied glances, knowing we had just pulled off the first part of our plan. We had fooled Alpha Julius, Luna Martha, and the pack’s guards. It had been too easy. Their suspicion had been low, too low, for such a powerful pack, and we had exploited that weakness.
Wendell chuckled softly, his voice low and raspy. “I have to admit, Elton, you’re a damn good actor. I didn’t think we’d get away with it so easily.”
I smiled faintly. “It wasn’t me. It was all of us.” I glanced at Natalia and Doreen, who both nodded. “But we’ve still got a long way to go.”
