MEGAN
As I stood in my room, I felt a surge of determination. I needed to see my parents, to understand why they had suddenly reappeared. But just as I took a step toward the door, Jay blocked my path.
"Miss Megan," he said firmly, his voice gentle but unyielding, "you can’t just leave the room like this. You need Beta Lucas’s permission."
I was taken aback, a heavy weight settling on my chest. "Please, Jay," I whispered, my voice thick with emotion. "I just want to see my parents. I don’t know what’s happened to them."
Jay’s eyes softened, but he still held his ground. I could see him glance over at Cindy, as if seeking her advice. Cindy’s gaze shifted from Jay to me, her face full of understanding.
