Annie couldn’t speak. Her mouth opened, but nothing came out, her heart was beating too fast. “I… I didn’t post that,” she said finally, her voice shaking. “You expect me to believe that?” Stephen’s voice came low. Tears burned in her eyes. “I’m serious! I didn’t, I just saw it too!” Her fingers tightened around the phone. “I would never, not again” “Then who did?” he said “I don’t know…” she whispered. Silence again. “Stay where you are,” he said suddenly. Her heart skipped. “What?” “Don’t move.” The line went dead. Annie stared at her phone. Her chest rising and falling fast. “What does that mean…?” She stood up, started pacing. Her hands shaking. Her mind racing. “This is bad… this is really bad…” A knock came on her door. Annie froze. Her heart jumped into her throat. “Who?” Another knock. Stronger this time. Her chest tightened. Slowly… She walked to the door. Her hands trembling. She opened it, and there he was. Stephen. Standing there. “You, how did you” “Move.” Her brows pulled. “What?” “I said move.” Her body reacted before her mind. She stepped aside. He walked in, Closed the door behind him. “I told you I didn’t post it” “I know.” She froze. “what?” He turned to face her. His eyes locked on hers. “I know.” Her breath caught. “Then why are you here?” “Because it came from your account.” He responded Her chest tightened. “I didn’t do it” she said “I know.” He replied Her voice broke slightly. “Then why does it feel like you don’t believe me?” “Give me your phone.” She hesitated. But only for a second. Then handed it to him. He took it and started going through it. Annie stood there. Watching him. “What if he finds something…?” “What if it looks like I did it…?” “What if” “Sit.” He said firmly She blinked. “What?” “Sit down.” Her body moved again before her mind could argue, she sat on the edge of the bed. Her hands clasped tightly together. Trying to stay calm. Trying not to panic. He didn’t speak for a while. Just kept checking. His expression didn’t change much. “Has anyone else used your phone?” Her brows pulled. “No…” “Anyone at all?” She shook her head. “No, I don’t even give it to people” “Passwords?” She paused. “…no one knows them.” He didn’t say anything “Say something…” Her voice was small now. “Am I in trouble…?” “Yes.” He said carefully Her breath stopped, Her heart dropped. “What…?” “You are.” Tears filled her eyes instantly. “I didn’t do anything” “I know.” He said “Then why” “Because it doesn’t matter.” He replied “…what do you mean it doesn’t matter?” He stood up slowly, Walked toward her, Stopped in front of her. “Right now,” he said, voice low, “it looks like you’re attacking me again.” Her breath caught. “I’m not” “I know.” “But everyone else doesn’t.” “This is not fair…” she whispered. “No.” His voice didn’t change. “It’s not.” Her eyes dropped. Tears falling quietly now. “I just wanted to vent… just once…” Her voice broke. “And now everything is… like this…” She didn’t finish. The room went quiet. “Look at me.” He spoke She hesitated. Then slowly lifted her head. “This is not random,” he said. Her breath caught. “What…?” “Someone is using you.” Her heart skipped. “…for what?” “To get to me.” “Why me…?” “Because you’re easy.” “…easy?” she replied “Yes.”, “You’re emotional.” He spoke Her breath caught. “You react fast.” Her fingers curled slightly. “You don’t think before acting.” Her throat tightened. “And now”, “…you’re close to me.” “Close…?” She didn’t understand why that word felt heavy, why it made her heart beat faster, why it scared her. “What do I do?” she asked softly. Her voice shaking, because she didn’t know anymore, didn’t know what was right, didn’t know what was safe. He looked at her. “You listen.” Her breath caught. “You don’t move without telling me.” Her chest tightened. “You don’t respond to anything online.” She nodded slowly. “And you don’t panic.” A small, broken laugh almost came out of her. “That one might be hard…” “You’ll learn.” He replied Her heart skipped again; Silence filled the room. Then His phone buzzed, He pulled it out, and checked it. His expression changed slightly, not much but enough. “What is it…?” Annie asked quietly. He didn’t answer immediately. He just looked at the screen. “Interesting.” Her chest tightened. “What?” He stepped closer, showed her the screen, her breath caught, her heart dropped. Because it was a message, From the same anonymous account. But not to her. To him. Her fingers trembled slightly. “What does it say…?” “‘She’s not the only one watching you.’” “What…?” Her heart started racing again. Annie’s voice came out barely above a whisper. “…who is doing this?” Stephen didn’t answer. He just looked at the screen again. Then back at her. And the look in his eyes this time “Someone who just made a mistake.” Her breath caught. “What do you mean?” He locked his phone. His voice dropped. “Because now, they have my attention.” Annie’s fingers tightened, her chest rising and falling fast Because she didn’t know if that was a good thing, Or the worst thing that could happen, and before she could even ask Another notification came in. Both of them looked at the same time. Stephen picked it up slowly, His expression didn’t change. But Annie’s did. Because her name was on the screen. Her heart dropped. “No…” Her voice shook. Slowly…Stephen turned the phone toward her. And what she saw Made her blood run cold. Because this time, It wasn’t just a post. It was a video Of her, Inside his office From earlier that day And it looked Very, very wrong.
