Sophia lay in bed that morning, looking up at the ceiling blankly as she gathered her thoughts. Memories of the previous night were stuck in her mind, Asher had cuddled her into a peaceful sleep after a long love-making session that had left her sated and exhausted. Thinking of these moments, brought a smile to her face, Asher really knew how to satisfy a woman. He always put her needs first, before his which made love-making with him something she always looked forward too. Asher’s voice drifted from the other room, his tone firm and commanding as he discussed business deals and profit margins. Sophia closed her eyes, a proud smile etched on her face. With a glance at the clock, she threw off the covers and got out of bed. She began to pack ber bags, her movements quick and deliberate. She was leaving for texas today, after spending a week at Ashers’, not wanting to miss her flight she hurries to the bathroom and takes the quickest shower ever. Fully packed, she zipped up her suitcase and made her way to Asher’s home office where he was still on the call. “Alright then, that’s settled.” Asher ends upon seeing Sophia approaching. “Hey baby, I’m ready to leave.” He stands up to meet her halfway, sealing his lips to hers in a deep, slow kiss. She pulls away, knowing if she lets the kiss go further, she would miss her flight. “Let me drive you to the airport. You know, I see no reason why you wouldn’t let my private jet just fly you over.” He sighed. She grabs his cheeks in her arms, cooing him like a baby. “Ohh Asher, we’ve talked about this. Just this once, okay.” “Fine.” “Hold on, here. James hands her a small package. “For the road.” Sophia unpacked it to find a beautiful high quality silver necklace with a tiny compass pendant. “For navigation.” He said, smiling. Tears pricked at the corner of Sophia’s eyes as she hugged her boyfriend. “You’re so sweet.” She choked out. “Anything for you, princess.” I’ll miss you, love.” Asher pulled her into a tight hug. “I’ll miss you too.” She replied, her voice muffled against his chest. *********************** Sophia sat in her small apartment, sipping her morning coffee and flipping through a book she had just picked at the town’s library. She had been in Texas for two weeks now amd had fallen back to her usual daily routine. Once the clock read six, she turns on the Tv to stream her favorite show. ‘NEWYORK MOST ELIGIBLE BACHELOR SEEN YESTERDAY WITH THE HIGHEST PAID MODEL, KISSING’ so it read immediately the TV came on, with the news presenter smiling excitedly. Sophia’s eyes widened as she clicked on the news, her mind racing with thoughts of Asher and the scandal. The news went on describe how Asher had been spotted at a trendy bar at Los Angeles, laughing with the stunning model, Emily Grant. The picture showed Asher with his arm on Emily’s waist holding her as they shared a kiss, with his eyes wide open. Sophia’s heart thudded loudly, her chest constricting with pain she couldn’t explain. The news struck her heart mercilessly like she had just been stabbed. She still couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that Asher could cheat on her. She turned off the TV immediately, not wanting to hear anymore about the news. A wave of sadness and betrayal washed over her, wondering why he did that to do her and just threw their relationship away like he meant nothing to him. She couldn’t hold back the tears, as a few strays escaped her eyes but she furiously wiped them off, reminding herself that she had work tomorrow and she couldn’t show up with a swollen face and eye. Sophia got up from the coach and walked over to the window, staring out the landscape abstractly, lost in thought. Then her phone suddenly rang, breaking the silence. She picks up her phone to see who the caller was, once it flashed Asher’s name on the screen, a surge of anger and hurt hit her again. She turns off her phone angrily, with tears streaming down her face. She makes her way to her room, still crying where she falls sound asleep. An urgent knock on the door wakes Sophia up late into the night. Startled, she glances at the bedside clock to see it was a minute past 12. Sophia makes her way to door with a bat, ready to go physical as much as her body could go. As she opens the door, she sees one of Asher’s bodyguards. “Good morning ma’am. Sorry to be a bother.” “Morning, how can I help you?.” Sophia asks calmly. “The boss asked to check on you. He’s in another city for business reasons and can’t come here himself till later tomorrow.” The guard explained. “Let him know I’m okay, as you can see.” “Will do. He says to turn your phone on.” Sophia scoffs at his last sentence. “Have a good sleep ma’am.” With a sigh, she closes the door. Unfazed by Asher sending in someone to come check on her at this ungodly hour. Finally turning on her phone, she sees a bunch of messages and voicemails from Asher. Just as she plays one of the mails, a call from Asher comes in. She hesitates for a moment before picking it up, angry and hurt wondering why he couldn’t just leave her alone. “Baby.” Asher said, his voice sounding anxious and uncertain. “Are you okay? I’ve been trying to reach you all day. “ Sophia took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down, “I’m fine, thanks to you.” She replied her voice, distant. “Oh Sophia, you saw the news. I promise it’s not what it seems like. I swear baby.” Asher begged. Sophia laughed, a bitter sound. “Save it, Asher. You sent quite a number of messages. Wondering if I’ve seen the news? Of course, I did see it.” “Baby, please.” Asher pleaded. “Just hear me out, I can explain everything. It’s a misunderstanding, I wouldn’t do that to you Sophia.” She shook her head, even though he couldn’t see her. Her voice cracking, “No Asher, it might seem like just a kiss to you, but to me it’s more than that. You were the first guy I gave myself to and allowed to love. I feel stupid, maybe if you weren’t famous, I wouldn’t feel this much hurt. I had to find out my boyfriend was cheating on me through the news…” “Baby, i’ll fly in right now if I could, just…” “No!” She said firmly. “Sophia, see you in two days. I’m not going to let our relationship get ruined because of a foolish misunderstanding.” Now she was confused, was it really a misunderstanding? Or Asher was just trying to save himself? “Sleep tight, baby. I’ll call you tomorrow. I love you.” With that he ends the call, leaving the crying woman even more confused. Tired, after a while she was returning to the bed when a wave of dizziness hit her, causing her to loose her balance, as a slight headache began to form. She huffed in pain and waits till she regains her strength before going to the bathroom to pee. Passing by the mirror, she raises her head and was met with her reflection, she frowns. Her hair was scattered and greasy, with dark circles around her eyes and her skin looked whiter than usual, rather pale. “Lord, I look hideous.” She murmured to herself. ******************** Sophia woke up with a start, her stomach churning with an urgent need to puke. She rushed to the bathroom, barely making it to the toilet before she vomited. She sat there for a few moments, catching her breath and trying to calm her racing heart. With the stench of her vomit assaulting her stomach, she stands up to rinse her mouth as her mind begins to clear. She shook her head in disbelief, “That’s not possible.” She muttered. She was on the pills, what she was thinking couldn’t possibly be true. She pauses as she realizes that she had missed her period. Panic started to set in as she counted back the days. She quickly got dressed and rushed to the nearest drugstore, grabbing a few pregnancy kits and headed to the checkout, her heart racing with anticipation.
