Chapter Eight: Fear and Hopelessness

1453 Words
Andradin has spent the last few months in despair, the guilt of killing his grandfather constantly weighs on him. He has noticed a change in Adessa even though he doesn't want to admit it to himself. The past few weeks, she has been closed off and keeps to herself. She refuses to let him touch her and shy away whenever he tries to give her any affection.   His mind and his heart are at odds, his heart is telling him that he loves her and to ignore her actions. Whereas his mind is constantly pointing out all the changes he has seen in her. Things became bad a few weeks before. He had come home to find her on the floor in her bedroom.   She was in tears and acting very strange, no matter how hard he tried to find out what happened she refused to tell him, she blew it off as just having a headache. Andradin knew thought that it was much more than that. Since he killed his grandfather, he had seen a change in her.       She was constantly mentioning turning her into a goddess and giving her immortality, and Andradin as much as he loved her, could not bring himself to do it. He kept recalling what his sister had told him, “Andradin, you can't trust Adessa! The only reason she is with you is that she wants power. She was with you at first because she found out you were royalty, but now that she knows you come from a line of Gods and Goddesses, she wants that power for herself! She's using you!”   No matter how hard he tried he could not get her words out of his head, Adessa's actions of late were starting to show just that. But fear played a huge factor in his actions. Andradin stayed with Adessa, even with all the signs being there because he was afraid that he had lost the family that loved him.   He had killed someone they loved, there was no way that they would ever forgive him for what he did, he lived in fear that one day he would wake up with his mother standing over him, and rip his heart out, or disintegrate him like she had Rayon. Andradin wished he could go back home; he missed his mother and his sister.   But his fear kept him away, it kept him running back to Adessa, allowing her to continue her manipulation. The past few days had been rough on Andradin, he kept noticing things that she was doing that seemed off to him. She would leave, hair nice, makeup on wearing very seductive alluring clothing and she would return hours later looking rather disheveled.   He knew something was going on and he kept trying to overlook all the warning signs, but that nagging in his mind was getting more persistent as the days passed by.   Andradin left the palace a lot, and he would go to the portal of Noir Lune, step inside find a place out of the way and enjoy the smell of the ocean, the feel of the breeze and the beauty of the darkness he was coming to love. He had no idea that there was someone aware of his presence.....             Serena could feel it again, her son had come back, he had been coming into Noir Lune for the past few months, ever since he had killed her father. She wanted to go to him, to find out why he did it. She had so many questions, but she knew if she went to him, he would run.   She knew he was afraid, she could sense his fear, his sorrow, his aching heart. As a mother, she wanted to go comfort him, as a daughter she wanted to know why he did something so awful to the one man that had given him a chance. Serena did her best to keep from going to him.   So, instead she would watch him from a distance, she could see it in his face, he found peace in Noir Lune, just as she does. It made her heart ache for him, and it left her wondering if there would ever be a time when he would come home...         Adessa could not get the horrific images of her lover out of her head, for weeks his screams and images of his torture haunted her, what haunted her more though was the threat she always heard at the end, “You're next.” She was afraid.   She had every reason to be afraid, she had convinced Andradin to kill a member of his family so she could get power. She had tried everything to try and convince him to give her power and immortality, but she saw his hesitation. She had been spending most of her days, going out and meeting men and having affairs with them.     It was those few hours of pleasure that saved her from her tortured mind, but then she would come home, and it would be so much worse. She knew she couldn't tell Andradin if she told him the truth he would leave, and she would be left with nothing. Adessa was getting desperate, she constantly fights the urge to run away her desire of power keeping her right where she was at.   She wanted his power no matter what it took. But Adessa could feel it, the empty feeling, the feeling that this was only going to end one way. She was filled with hopelessness; she could not see a light at the end of the tunnel all she saw was darkness...           Serena was enjoying the torment she was giving to Adessa, it was one thing to kill her, it was another to make her suffer for what she had done. Anytime she felt a glimmer of hope begin to appear in Adessa's soul, she would blacken it out, she wanted her to lose hope.   She wanted her to live in fear, Serena wanted Adessa to spend what little time she had left completely miserable. Astra would soon make her move and there would be nothing that Adessa could to prevent it. And when it happens, Serena knew that they would all be able to get on with their lives.   The revenge was consuming Astra, making her put her love life on hold, just so she could focus on avenging her grandfather, Serena wanted Astra to be happy and have love. She knew the time was drawing closer. Serena spent some time with Astra and helped her formulate a good plan...     It had been decided that Serena would do her best to keep Andradin preoccupied and out of the palace, while Astra went there and did what she needed to do. Since Serena had been watching him these past few months, she had a good idea of how long he would stay in Noir Lune.   It should be enough time for Astra, but in case she needed more time, Serena could always provide a distraction. She kept pushing Astra to spend more time with Dagon and get her mind off of everything, but Astra was determined, and there was nothing that would be able to stop her.     Dagon spent most of his free time with Astra, and their relationship was not the only one that was blossoming. Thorn and Ralane had become more than friends, they were happy and in love with each other. They both knew that their best friends were heading in the same direction. The two of them did everything they could to encourage Astra and Dagon, to be together.   Ralane tries so hard to get Astra to admit to Dagon how she feels, she always tells her, “Just tell him Astra, don't wait until all this revenge is over to tell him. What if something happens and he never knows.”   Astra smiles at her, “Ralane, I'm not ready yet, as much as I love him, I'm not ready to tell him yet, and deep down, I think it's because he isn't ready to tell me either. We have spent so much time together and I love it but, when it’s the right time we will both know.”     As much as she wanted to run into Dagon's arms and tell him how she felt, and kiss him for the first time, she knew that they needed to get the revenge out of the way. When she tells him, she wants to be able to do it and enjoy the moment without having thoughts about killing someone in the back of her mind.   She would tell him at the right time. That was all anyone needed to know... ReplyForward
