Liyana had made the decision to place a call, and now she waited patiently for the other end to pick up. The sound of the call being connected echoed in her ear as a voice replied, "Hey, Liyana, give me a sec." The person on the other end briefly paused before saying they would bring someone to the phone. Liyana waited patiently, listening to the person on the other end. They eventually replied, "Oh, she fell asleep." Liyana responded, "It's okay. Is she fine?" Her voice held a hint of concern, as she asked about the well-being of the person who had fallen asleep. The caller responded, "Yes, she is fine and doing great in her school." Liyana smiled ever so slightly and replied, "Okay fine... I'm sorry to disturb you at this hour." Her tone was sincere and apologetic, acknowledging the late timing of her call. The caller replied in a casual tone, "No, it's fine... Bye." Liyana ended the call and turned her attention to the glass window once again. Her gaze locked onto it as she closed the distance between herself and the glass, feeling compelled to get closer to it. Liyana placed her hand on the glass window and began to run it across the surface, clearing the foggy condensation. She looked outside through the now-clear patch of glass, a smile forming on her face as she watched the snowfall. The serenity of the moment captivated her, providing a brief respite from her thoughts. The view of the city lights, the busy roads, the passing cars - everything appeared different from her vantage point. The city was alive and thriving, yet there was a sense of tranquility in the midst of the chaos. People were going about their daily lives, completely oblivious to her presence, yet she couldn't shake the feeling that a spotlight was trained solely on her. Liyana whispered to herself in a subdued tone, "So, this is how you felt, Ayana..." Her words carried a mix of empathy and realization, as she imagined the perspective of the person she was trying to mimic. Liyana fixed her gaze on the picture of Ayana placed on the table. Frustration laced her words as she exclaimed, "You were supposed to come back, b***h! Where are you hiding now?" Her voice held a tinge of anger, as if she was directing her words at Ayana, demanding her presence. Liyana spoke with a firm tone, directing her words towards the missing girl, "Now, my return hinges on your return. You need to come back soon before everything you have gets ruined!" Her voice held a mix of determination and slight aggression, as if she was issuing a subtle threat to Ayana, warning her about the consequences of her absence. "What are you talking about? Who will return?" Liyana was suddenly startled by the sound of Elijah's voice coming from behind her. She hadn't noticed his presence. She turned around, and her breath hitched slightly as she saw him standing there. Her surprise was evident as she met his gaze, wondering how long he had been there. Liyana's voice faltered slightly as she replied, "Nothing! I was just talking to myself, thinking out loud!" She struggled to maintain her composure, feeling a mix of surprise and disbelief that he was there. In an attempt to deflect attention away from her, she turned the focus onto him and asked, "What are you doing here?" Elijah moved closer to her, his gaze fixed on her as he brought up a past conversation they had had on a previous call. He asked, "On the last call we had a year ago, you said you had something important to tell me when I got back. Remember? I've come back now, so may I know what was that important thing?" His voice held a mixture of curiosity and anticipation, as he waited for her to reveal the untold secret. Liyana cursed inwardly, blaming Ayana for her current predicament. She shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly and replied, "Ohhh, my silly mind! It was nothing. Just some back and forth talk. Forget it now!" Her words carried a hint of indifference, as if she wanted to dismiss the topic and move on. However, her inner frustration towards Ayana simmered beneath the surface. Elijah's tone held a note of persistence, as he urged her to open up and share what she had been keeping to herself. "Come on," he said, "You rarely want to share anything with me! Tell me!" His words carried a mix of curiosity and concern. He wanted to understand her better and knew that she had a habit of keeping things to herself, which frustrated him. Liyana replied, her tone laced with irritation, "I said drop it! "She tried to turn away, but Elijah grabbed her arm, forcing her to face him. His grip was firm, his voice stern as he said, "I said say!" The tension between them escalated, as Elijah refused to let go until she revealed what she had been withholding. Liyana rolled her eyes, her irritation and frustration evident. In that moment, a particular line of information that Jennifer had mentioned earlier came to her mind - Ayana had a thing for Elijah. Suddenly, the gears in Liyana's mind began to turn as a realization dawned upon her. Liyana placed her hand on his chest, feeling his heartbeat accelerating beneath her touch. She looked him in the eyes and uttered, "I like you..." The atmosphere around them shifted, and the tension between them seemed to grow heavier. Elijah's gaze held a mixture of surprise and disbelief, unsure of how to process her unexpected confession. (Sorry I had to make 2 parts, it crossed the limited words)
