Liam turned back instinctively, almost as though he expected a swarm of police officers to come flooding through the door. There was no batch of officers there. He still looked about, bracing himself for fear and dread, but nothing came. He felt completely numb. His eyes quickly scanned the entrance, still waiting for even a single man with uniform to be waiting. Captain Hook had just turned and walked away, but Liam's gaze slid over him without interest.
He turned back to Jennie, his expression wary. “Didn’t you just say the police were looking for me?”
She c****d her head at the entrance. “I didn’t say he was in his police uniform. Besides, you missed him. You wouldn’t be able to tell even if he was standing right in front of you.”
