“How are you working for Jennie?” Albert immediately rounded on Jennie, giving her the full glare of his attention. “How in the world did you get him to work for you? I can barely get him to come here.”
“Albert, I’ll tell you the same thing I tell anyone who asks: it was grandfather who sent him my way.” Her face immediately became downcast. She rubbed both sides of her arms and looked away.
Albert cleared his throat self-consciously and glanced at Liam. There was a tense silence between Jennie and Albert, as though they had uttered the wrong word and now no one knows how to handle it. Liam wanted to know how Albert knew Jennie, but the world of the wealthy was interconnected. They always knew one another. How else would they keep their circle small and firm whilst enriching themselves?
