Mate?

1095 Words
Arthur When she took my hand, the buzzing sensation overwhelmed me. I finally found her, my missing half! My mate! Finn became possessive, wanting to kiss her until we marked her, and I had to hold him. "Finn, calm down. We can't rush it. We need to think about this! Or do you want to scare her?" "You are always the same killjoy... Fine! But hurry! Or I'll do it for you!" "The hell you will! Just trust me; I want her as much as you do!" I could feel that she was nervous, but so was I. I knew the reason, but did she? Did she know the effects of the mate bond? Who knew!? All I wanted to do now was get to know her. She nodded at me, and we jumped at the same time. Letting go of my hand, against my will, we were swimming side by side, looking at the underwater sea life. I spotted a massive starfish and pointed it out for her to see. She gave me a thumbs-up, and I could see the joy in her eyes. We kept going up for air and coming back. I was so focused on the ocean floor when she grabbed my hand and pulled me, pointing at the sea horses. There were two of them; they seemed to be dancing around each other. I was so surprised by this, and I had never seen anything like it, only on BBC documentaries. She signalled me to go up to the surface. I was fine, but I followed her nonetheless. We emerged at the same time, trying to catch our breaths. "Have you seen that?!" "Yeah, see horses! They are amazing!" "Yes, they are! They were also dating!" the excitement in her eyes was evident. I arched an eyebrow. "What do you mean, dating?" "The male chooses his mate for life, and then he has to make her choose him back, so all the time he's with her, it's like a date. They swim entailed, kiss each other's snouts, and when she finally accepts him completely, they mate, and the male bears the offspring. It's my favourite small animal, and this is my first time seeing one while diving." "What? Really?" "Yes! Right now, he's courting her..." "So what happens after the offspring are born? They go their separate ways?" "Depends on the species. Most of them stay together forever. In some ways, they remind me of the mate bond." she said while looking me in the eyes, then tore her eyes from mine. Why? That hurt. "Why don't we go back there? I'll try to look for them again." "Sure, let's go!" I grabbed her hand and pulled her down with me. After searching, I spotted them, and they were kissing each other's snouts. I looked at Miriam, and seeing the happiness on her face made me happy. Causing me to wish I could make her happy too. I felt my heart squeeze. When we came back up, the sun was starting to set. I jumped out of the pool and stretched my hand to help her. I held her up with too much strength, and she bumped against my chest. For a moment, I felt like kissing her. Her wet curls framed her gorgeous face. There were salty water drops on her lips, and I could see the sunset in her eyes. I was so mesmerised by her. Clearing my throat, I snapped out of it, and she stepped away from me, blushing. "Thanks..." "We should get going. The sun is setting." "You're right. Mafalda must be worried. Let's go." "Yeah, let's." She didn't wait for me this time. She jumped fast into the ocean and started swimming back. She sure was a fast swimmer. Even I had to try harder to keep up. When we stepped out of the water, she turned to me, still trying to catch her breath. "I had fun today!" she stated, smiling at me. "Me too. Thank you for showing me your special place." she shrugged like it was nothing. I couldn't take my eyes off hers. "I'm glad you liked it.". We were staring at each other when her friend interrupted us. "Miriam! I was starting to worry! Look at the sun; you're never this late." "Calma... Chill... I'm back. Sorry, I lost track of time. We were snorkelling." From out of nowhere, Diego appeared, his brows furrowed, his jaw about to pop out of place, and at the same time, I didn't miss the hungry look he gave Miriam, making me want to punch him. "WHERE WERE YOU?" he shouted at her, making my blood boil and my fists close. "Since when do I owe you any explanations?" there it was, her courage, not taking any of his bullshit, she looked at him straight on. "You are my girlfriend!" I saw Mafalda's shocked gaze from the side of my eye, making me believe it was a lie. Miriam laughed without smiling. "Since when? Are you out of your mind, Diego?" "Since you kissed me goodnight last night!" he shouted in pure rage. "You kiss whoever you want all the time! And I don't care! I'm free, and so are you. Also, put on that thick skull of yours that you don't own me." She was so angry but didn't deny kissing him the night before, and I know it shouldn't have, but it bothered me. "Why are you coming back from the sea with this guy? Is this some challenge?" He said in an almost threatening tone. "Why would I challenge you? I'll repeat, you do not get to decide my life!" This conversation was pissing me off. I wanted to punch him and knock him out. I needed to calm down. Was she with him? I need space right now. Trying to gather my self-restraint, I tried to get her attention. "Huh, Miriam, will you be okay if I go? I feel like you guys need to sort things out." She was beyond pissed but looked at me tenderly, and I felt her sadness. Was it because I was leaving? "Sure, I'll see you around." I smiled at her. Wanting to provoke Diego, I couldn't resist being honest about our afternoon. "Thank you for our date. I had fun." I kissed her cheek and didn't wait long enough to see her reaction. I just left, walking towards the bus stop. I grabbed my towel and shirt, barely stopping; otherwise, I would punch that guy until no one could recognise his face!
