Arthur
What if Lucas doesn't like me?
As we started to descend to Lisbon I felt excited but also nervous and anxious. I was going to see my son for the first time and wondered what he looked like. Miriam and Cody have been in a banter since the plane took off. As always Cody enjoys teasing her, and even though she knows he's only joking, she still gets annoyed.
Now they were discussing what's the best movie out of the Marvel Universe and of course, Cody has to be teasing her about the subjects she knows more about. He's a DC fan and even though he's told me many times that the DC movies could be better, he would never admit it Miriam. I was trying to hide my laughter the whole time.
"Come on Cody! Seriously?!" She sounded all r and I really had to hold it in, I wanted to burst into laughter, only I couldn't otherwise she would turn to me.
"Yes! Seriously! Marvel characters lack depth, they lack the backstory. And that's why I think Man is the best ie. Actually, I think, none of them are that special."
She was fuming. And although I didn't want to get involved I also don't like injustice. I knew for a fact that Cody went to watch all the Marvel movies in the cinema as soon as they were out.
"Is that why you watch all of the movies on the first day they're out?" I smirked at him, and he seem to be caught off guard until I said nothing so he thought it was safe.
"Hey, why are you getting involved? I went with Frank! He wanted to watch it not me!"
I raised an eyebrow. I knew for a fact he dragged Frank to the cinema every time. That's when he mind-linked me.
"Please, man! It's hard to argue why her! She's winning the conversation!"
"Then don't tease her."
"She doesn't need you to defend her."
"Oh, I know, I just want to see you sweat a little." That was it, the look on his face made me burst into laughter.
Miriam looked at me raising an eyebrow and expected an explanation to know why I was laughing.
"What's so funny?"
I spoke between laughs.
"Nothing love. Don't mind me, I shouldn't get involved in your conversation. I know that by now." Cody didn't hesitate to tease her again.
"I can't wait to meet my nephew and tell him all about batman." She smirked at him, a cat-like smirk that did things to me, things I couldn't act on. At least not right now.
"He knows all about batman." That's all she said before looking out the window. I wondered what she meant by that, maybe he liked batman. s**t! I forgot to get him a present! I should get him something, shouldn't I?
"Hey Mi, I didn't book a hotel for us yet which one would you advise?"
She looked at him frowning.
"Hotel? There's no need for that. We can all stay in my parent's house."
I sucked in a sharp breath. s**t her parents! I had to meet them too. What was I going to say? Hi, I was the one who knock up your daughter five years ago and left!
She noticed my reaction, placing her hand on my arm.
"What is it, Art?" The familiar name on her lips brought back memories, all good ones. I gave her an apologetic look.
"I don't think it's a good idea for us to stay in your parent's house. I'm guessing that they are not my biggest fans."
She gave me a small smile and was about to speak when annoyingly Cody entered the conversation.
"Well, I think it's a wonderful idea! I can't wait to eat Mrs Moura's food and watch Arsenal with Mr Moura. Does your dad like football?"
"Hahahaha, Cody in my house my dad is the cook. My mom and Irina are not allowed in the kitchen, except for meal times, for everyone's sake. But to answer your question, my dad likes football and so does my brother." Miriam's eyes shone as she spoke about her family. She gave a small squeeze on my wrist calming me immediately. "Art, don't worry, I spoke with my dad before we got on the plane, and yes, they want to talk to you, but he promised to be civil."
I gave her a small smile and nodded. "I just don't want to impose my presence on them. But if you want to stay there, then I'll be by your side." She reached for me, placing a small peck on my lips, and if it wasn't for Cody, I would have taken that kiss further.
"How old are your brother and your sister? I can't remember." Cody asked with a puzzled expression.
"Irina is nineteen, and Gonçalo is fourteen."
As she finished speaking the plane landed.
Shortly after we were exiting the plane, and got on the black SUV that was already expecting us, driving us to the address Miriam gave the driver.
Cody sat in the front as me and I sat together in the back seat. I could feel her fatigue, she leaned into me and rested her head on my shoulder. Exhaling slightly.
"So... Private plane, car as soon as you exit, you really don't like to wait, do you?"
I smirked at her, "I don't like to waste time. Right now, I'm about to go meet my son and your family. I'm already five years late."
She gave me a small smile and kissed me on the cheek. "It's going to be okay, I know you're nervous. I can feel it through the bond. Take it easy, there's nothing you can do about the past. You can only work for a better future." I brought her hand to my lips and kissed her hand before whispering. "I don't deserve you."
She shook her head. "You do, you just like to piss me off."
Cody took that as a chance to get into the conversation and turn in his seat to face us. "Miriam, according to your standards, everyone pisses you off."She glared at him before I had a chance to.
"Starting with you." He put both hands up giving up after her glare.
"No need to give me that killer look. I was only kidding." He was slightly scared of her but still tried not to let it show. She was still glaring but noticeably satisfied with his reaction. I could feel her holding her laugh, through our bond.
These two had a weird connection, but I guess, he being my beta and she being my luna, their friendship was undeniable. He was her defender and took it upon himself to retrieve her to safety. I knew he felt guilty for advising me, all those years ago, not to tell her what was really going on. And because of that she suffered immensely, so now, he felt that protecting her was his most important job.
We drove through traffic, it was almost dinner time and I heard Miriam's stomach complain. I felt guilty for not feeding her on the plane, I was so anxious that I completely forgot.
"I'm okay Art. We're almost there." She sensed my concern.
"I should have remembered."
"Don't worry." Cody turned around giving me puppy eyes.
"What about me? I'm hungry too! Aren't you worried about me?" I rolled my eyes at him, but Miriam laughed at his attempt of getting attention. The car stopped in front of a three-story house, in this neighbourhood all the houses looked similar. But this one was slightly bigger. The white exterior walls were framed with yellow paint. It reminded me of houses in Italy. I guess being Latin, similarities were expected.
I tried to listen to noises inside the house. I could hear a conversation between two women, and men and a small child laughing.
Miriam extended her hand for me to take, snapping me out of my thoughts. "Come." I nodded taking her hand.
"Arthur, this is what you asked me, here. I take care of the bags, you guys go ahead." I frowned looking at him.
"It's for Lucas. I know you didn't have time to get him anything, so I got him a puzzle. I figured you guys could do it together."I gave him a thankful nod.
"Thanks, man. I owe you one." He smirked.
"You always owe me one."
I took her hand and walked to the door with her. She rang the bell and soon I could hear small feet running to the door shouting.
"It's MOMMYYY!"
Miriam looked at me and smiled, I felt my heartbeat in my ears, and Finn was jumping up and down with excitement.
Soon the door opened and Lucas all but ran to Miriam, wrapping his arms and legs around her. I felt my heart growing in size at the sight of them together. My son and my mate. Until three days ago, I didn't know my boy existed, and now I don't know what I would do without him. A very tall hulking man with bright blue eyes greeted me with a single nod, no doubt Miriam's dad, the facial similarities were many.
Once Miriam finished covering our son with kisses, she looked at him with the biggest smile I ever saw on her. Lucas started talking fast immediately.
"Mommy, I missed you! Grandpa said you were coming for dinner, so I made cookies. It's a bit hard, but if you dip them in the milk they become soft and it's so good mommy!"
I couldn't help but stare at my little boy. He was even more amazing than I could ever have imagined. To look at him was as if I was looking at the pictures my parents had of me back home. Except for the eyes, those beautiful almond-shaped dark green eyes my mate has.
"Oh! That sounds awesome baby! Have you been good?"
"Yes, Mommy!" He looked at me, frowning, finally noticing someone else other than his mother. "Mommy, who is this?"
I had to contain my emotions, all I wanted to do was squeeze him in my arms but I couldn't. I didn't want to scare him by behaving desperately.
"Lucas is that how we say hi?" She scolded him slightly, showing me that she was indeed a good mom. Although, right now, I probably deserved that he turned his back on me.
"No mommy. Sorry." He looked back at me, "Hi, I'm Lucas. Who are you?" The words seem to be stuck in my throat. I forced them out.
"I'm Arthur. Nice to meet you, Lucas." I smiled at him, remembering the present. I extend my hand, "Here, this is for you."
He looked at Miriam frowning more. This kid was smart, he knew something was different about me.
"Mommy who is he to me? Wolfie is telling me he's daddy."
I felt a pang of pain in my chest, did he say wolf? How is that possible he's only five. The shock I was having right now was stopping me from breathing. I didn't know if I was like this because he knew I was his dad or because he already had a wolf.
Miriam looked at me giving me an encouraging smile, I felt a wave of calm take over me as I looked into her eyes.
"Yes baby, Arthur is your dad." Lucas's face lighted up immediately and he claimed down from his mom's embrace and run to hug my legs. I was so shocked I still couldn't believe any of this was real.
I kneeled down to face him, tears were now very close to falling. And when he hugged me, the guilt from being missing from his life all these years, and the happiness of the moment were overwhelming.
"Hi, daddy! It's good to finally meet you. I have so much to tell you."
"Then tell me. I'm here now my boy."
