The boys

Arthur When my cousin told me to look out the window, I saw the coast, crystal clear blue water. It looked like I had never been there from a place in the Caribbean, but it sure looked a lot like some pictures I'd seen. The golden sand beach could be seen at a far distance; as the sun shined, it made me blind, but I couldn't stop looking. Taking my shades from my backpack and putting them on, I enjoyed the rest of the drive until we got stuck in the traffic to the festival site. So many buses packed with teens and pre-teens hoping to get laid for the first time. This gift I have of sensing others' emotions was more often a curse than a blessing, mom used to say. Everyone was so happy and loud, having fun, dancing, and singing. It was surprisingly lovely. I was, by definition, a loner, so I found myself conflicted with my personality when I was drawn by it. My crazy cousin and best friend were clearly having the time of their life, looking at all the girls in a way that could get him in trouble. He had a point. The girls here were, without a doubt, hot. Most wore only shorts and bikini tops; some clearly had boyfriends, and he still wouldn't stop gawking. I missed the AC as soon as we stepped off the bus. It was so hot it made breathing almost impossible; the hot air burned my lungs. It was, without a doubt, the hottest weather I have ever experienced. "I love this country. It's clearly hot in every way." "Cody... man, you need to chill on the gawking. It makes you look desperate and also could get us in trouble." "Gawking? Me? What do you mean? Look, there's the queue, it must be where we get our bracelets, and the gate looks right next to it. Let's hurry. I still want to go to the beach today after we settle." "There's no music tonight?" "Nope, today is welcome campers day, so you get used to the place." "Cool, I should get some canned food from a grocery shop. "You see, this is why we get along... I was just thinking the same, great minds thin-..." All of a sudden, I stopped listening to Cody. I felt the most potent emotion ever coming from someone ahead. Finn was on alert and felt restless. I tried to focus on who it was coming from, but there were so many people I couldn't single it out. "Arthur!? Did you hear what I said? Is everything okay? You look like you heard a ghost whisper in your ear." "Huh, sorry, got distracted. Nothing to worry about." "Then move! It's almost our turn. Grab the printed tickets from your bag." Snapping myself out of it, I did. For some reason, I wasn't ready to share with anyone what I was feeling. Somehow I pushed down the urge to sniff out who it was and what made this person so anxious, afraid and... happy? What a weird combination. We finally got our bracelets shortly after we crossed the gate. A massive stage at the end of the field and other locations were spread across the area. This was indeed the equivalent of 4 football stadiums. To the right, at the far end, was a line of pine trees surrounded by a fence, where you could already see some tents assembled. There was a massive sign saying Camping. We started walking towards it, and we were already sweaty as f**k. I needed to take a cold spray fast to cool down, which was crazy hot. We made it to the shade and started to look for excellent shade to set out tents. I could not share a tent with him for an entire week. He snored louder than a train. Every time he slept in my house, I had to go to the living room to get some sleep... "Look there, close to the showers! There are three tree shades right now. Looks good to me; what do you think?" "Sounds good to me. I want to put all this down and drink some water." "Come on then. It will still take time to assemble the tents. If we want to get to the beach before sunset, hurry." "Not me! My tent is taken out of the bag and ready to go." "Well, good luck getting it back in the bag when we leave." "I will deal with that later..." he said, laughing it off. We put down our bags and got to work. Of course, Cody finished before me. "I'm going to take a shower while you finish your stuff. I'm soaked." "I need one too. Just help me out first." "Oh, does the little wolf need help setting up his tent and then washing his back?" shaking my head and fighting the urge to laugh, I put on an annoyed look. "f**k off then. You would probably delay me anyway." "Ah ah ah, see you soon..." he left, still laughing. "Stay out of trouble!" I shouted. I don't think he cared or heard me. I got my tent all stepped up in less than 10 minutes and started pumping the air mattress. It was a big tent; otherwise, I would have to sleep with my feet outside of it. I have to admit that for just me, my tent was too big. I dropped my luggage in the right corner and opened it like a ready-to-go dresser. My bed was in the middle, and I set my sneakers and flip-flops at the entrance. I even managed to bring three books for my free time during the mornings while Cody sleeps. Still thinking about the emotions I singled out earlier, I was trying to understand why I did it when I heard a growl. My instincts were alert. Who would be stupid enough to growl with so many humans around? I got out of the tent, knowing that Cody was in trouble. But with a wolf? And here, of all places? I needed to solve it as quickly as possible. This territory was supposed to be neutral ground since it's human property, which is why we came here. That means that other wolves must be there. I ran as fast as I could to get there. As I got closer, I. Cody and some big guy stood ready to jump on one another. The guy was beyond pissed, so I didn't waste time putting a hand on Cody's shoulders so he wouldn't do something stupid. I mentally linked him, "Cody, calm down. This place is full of humans we can't turn." "You should keep your dog on a leash." That made me want to punch him, it pissed me off straight away, but I didn't want to give him the satisfaction of showing him that it affected me, so I kept my cool. "First of all, I don't know you, and second, whatever happened, I'm sure we can talk about it instead of going to ballistics. This isn't the place or the time to make a scene." "Your dog here was trying to flirt with one of my female pack members, and I do not appreciate that.". Anger flowed through me, and I clenched my teeth with so much strength it almost cracked my jaw. Who did this guy think he was? To talk about a girl like her opinion didn't matter! Female? How much of a caveman was he? I looked straight at the girl and asked. "Was he disrespectful?" the taller one shook her head to say no. “This one wants trouble" before he could finish that sentence, I didn't give him a chance. I needed to set boundaries straight away. "I wasn't talking to you..." he became red like a tomato, clearly bothered by having no authority over me. "Look, let me be clear, this is human territory, which means no wolf can have a dispute on these grounds unless you want to start a war? If he didn't disrespect them, he wouldn't apologise and neither would I. Surely she's old enough to choose who she wishes to speak to. Also, female? What's this, the eighteen hundreds?" I said all this calmly and with all my natural authority. This caught his attention because I was an Alpha. I wasn't about to let him trash my best friend like that. We weren't just going to apologise and run away with our tails between our legs. He looked at me, smirking, "So you wish to fight British boy? Let's do it tonight at the edge of the territory."
