Arthur
As we made our way down to the beach, I looked at my beautiful girlfriend, my mate. Pride and happiness like I had never felt before, making Finn howl in happiness.
"Our mate is a beautiful woman and has a pure heart. It will be hard to leave without her."
"You're right. I need to speak to her about that." Finn agreed with me.
Noticing I was watching her, she gave a shy smile, and her cheeks heated. I would never get enough of her blush.
"What is it?" I took a deep breath and decided it was time we talked.
“Mi, I know we haven’t talked about the future. I was wondering, would you consider coming to live with me in Plymouth?”
Her eyes widened, and I thought that maybe it was too much to ask of her. She clutched my hand and spoke nervously.
“Art... I would love to, but I have to finish my senior year. Maybe I could apply for uni next year, but what would I even do there?”
“I don’t wish to put your plans aside and impose mine. I want you to know that whatever your decision is, I support you.”
She was silent for a few minutes considering my words. I was starting to get nervous.
“I guess for now, we have to enjoy the rest of our days together, and when the time comes, you go back to your life, and I go back to mine.” She was looking at the ocean absently as we walked down the path. “I don’t want to lose contact with you, so we can always video chat and message each other, it’s hard, but I am willing to do it if you are too.”
Even though I was already aware of this situation, the idea of being away from her hurt a lot more than I expected. Somehow, I wished I could apply to a university in Lisbon instead. Still, the deadlines have long expired for this year, and I have already paid for my first year of tuition in Plymouth.
Inevitably, I felt defeated and realised we would be apart for a whole year.
I gently stopped her, turning her to me.
Her eyes were watery from the emotion she was holding back.
“Mi, look at me.”, she did, giving me a forced smile, trying to hide, containing her emotions.
“My love, I would wait for you for the rest of my life if I had to. I can’t drop everything and move to Portugal, just like you can’t move to the UK with me. But I’ll be damned if I let this go for more than a year. I’ll catch a plane at any holiday chance I get. It will be hard for us both, but it will be worth it, knowing that at the end of the day, I can at least hear your voice and see your beautiful face, even if it’s just on the screen.”
My voice almost nearly failed at the end when she started sobbing, burying her face in my chest. I held her closer to me, kissing the top of her head, and at the same time, I inhaled her scent.
I was trying to hold back my tears but failed miserably as a few escaped me.
She started to pull away to look into my eyes, her eyeliner making her eyes dark from crying. I wiped it with my thumbs, removing most of it.
Ignoring my gesture, she grabbed my hands in hers.
“How long do we have? When are you leaving?” I exhaled, “ Sunday, we have three days.” She seemed to be thinking about something, “Arthur, do you think you could delay your flight for another week?” It made me think about it for a moment, but I would only be going home and doing nothing literally for the next week, “Possibly, why?” She gave me a small smile,
“Because I am going to Alentejo, which is in the countryside, to spend a week at my aunt's summer house, there’s no sea, but it’s amazing... If you would like to come...of course. You can also bring Cody. Mafalda was coming with me.”
“Nothing would make me happier, Miriam, another week with you sounds like a dream...”
“Then it’s settled you are coming with us.” I nodded at her, giving her a smirk to kiss her. She stopped me.
“Talking about it makes real Art. I already knew the consequences, and I didn’t care then, nor do I care now. I can take it, it will hurt every day, but I’ll do it, no one can hold me here when I turn eighteen.”
Her expression turned fierce at the last phrase, making me smile at her.
“ Miriam, no one can stop you, ever, period.”
A nervous giggle erupted from her—a mischievous smile playing at her lips.
“Not even you can stop me...”
She kissed me so fast that it was almost like it didn’t happen. She was gone so fast, running towards the water, clearly, challenging my wolf to run after her.
I started running. It didn’t take much to catch up. She was nearly at the water line, I hulled her up against my chest and ran into the water.
She screamed, surprised. When I finally stopped, the water was up to my chest.
She put both hands behind my head, wrapping her legs around my waist, and we kissed like nothing mattered, because, on that moment, it didn’t.
She was mine, and I was hers, distant or not.
Meanwhile, in Tuscany...
“Sir, I’ve just received word. It seems your grandson Arthur wasn’t amongst the wolves at the Wolfmoor estate.”
Currently gazing at the vineyard bathed by the sunset, Antonio frowns, turning around on his chair to face his Beta, Fabrizio.
“What do you mean, wasn’t there?”
Fabrizio let out a nervous sigh, avoiding the glaring of his alpha.
“Signora Valentina refuses to tell us his location, but I already have our people tracing him. The last time he used his phone, he was somewhere in Portugal.”
“Portugal? He’s probably just having fun. Let’s cut it short. Fabrizio, send him a picture of his entire pack.”
“Signor, do you think that’s a good idea? Signora Valentina is furious. Most of our guards are trying to resist her demands, but it’s difficult. She is your heir, after all.”
Slamming his fist on the table, Antonio lost his composure.
“She’s no daughter of mine! She made her choice when she married that good-for-nothing Englishman. Now my grandson has turned eighteen, he has to accept my terms, or I will take over their ridiculous pack and force them to abandon their lands.”
Seeing there is no use reasoning with him, Fabrizio takes mental notes of the following steps to bring young master Arthur to Tuscany. “Send him pictures of his pack in chains, and tell him he has 24 hours to catch my private plane in Lisbon before I kill their Alpha!”
“Yes, Alpha.”
Bowing to Antonio, Fabrizio exits the room to follow his order.
