Miriam
The next couple of days went by far too quickly.
We spent our days enjoying ourselves, sleeping till late mornings, going to the beach, swimming and snorkelling, and in the evenings, we would go back to enjoy the concerts.
Arthur was looking forward to seeing Eddie Vedder, just like me. Somehow, discovering we liked the same music type made almost every conversation topic. We are now trying to choose our song...
As we kept walking, Arthur laughed at my suggestions.
“I think we can’t choose it. It has to come to us naturally.”
“Fine, I can agree with that... if you agree that MCR is a great band!” I was shocked when I found out he didn't like emo music.
“They’re okay, I guess.”
“Okay? Are you kidding me ?”
“They’re too dramatic...and Emo.”
“Exactly! Emo is my way of life right now. I can relate.”
“Do you think the world is against you?”
“I do! Almost every day...”
“What about right now?” He placed both hands on my hips and pulled me closer to his chest.
“I said almost... now is an exception.”
He leaned in and kissed me. We were having a good time until Cody cleared his throat.
“I don’t mean to interrupt, but-”
“However you are, man!” Arthur said, looking at him very annoyed.
“However, we need to get ready for the concert! Or do you want to watch it from the back of the crowd?”
“He’s right, Art, go. I’ll see you in an hour... “ He sighed in defeat.
“Fine, just one last kiss...”
I gave him a quick peck and pulled away, turning fast to provoke him, and it worked. He grabbed my hand and pulled me against him, kissing me senselessly, leaving me out of breath and making me dizzy. He let me go, still holding me close to him.
“Now I can go.” He finally said, smirking at me. “I’ll see you later, love.”
I shook my head in defeat.
“I’ll see you later...love.”
We called love to each other as a joke. After he called me 'love', I laughed so much that it became our parting phrase.
“Come on, Miriam, we need a shower, dress up, and I have to do your make-up and mine...”
We kept eye contact while our friends kept pulling us away until Cody got him to turn the corner.
“We don’t need make-up, Mafalda. It’s nighttime....”
“Have I thought you nothing?! Of course, we need it! Besides, don’t you want to knock Arthur off his socks when he sees you?”
That idea sounded wicked, and I loved it. It would be amazing to leave him wanting me even more... I, for starters, was ready for our next step, and I could see he was like me but was restraining himself simultaneously.
“What’s with that plan face, Miriam? You look like you are thinking of something wicked.”
“Oh, my friend, but I am...”
“Care to explain?”Mafalda looked suspicious of my words.
“No.” realisation dawned on her.
“OH, MY GOD! You’re planning to do it tonight, aren’t you?”
“Why don’t you shout even louder? I’m sure no one heard you at the beach...” Ignoring me, she carried on.
“I knew it! Are you kidding me? You’re that in love?”
“Who says I’m in love?”
“Your face every time you see him or talk about him. Plus, I have never seen you so smitten by a guy before.”
“So what if I am?”
“Nothing against it. Just make sure to use protection!”
“Mafalda! Of course, I will! I’m on birth control anyway.”
“Still, there’s nothing like rubber.”
“Okay, can we please stop talking about my s*x life?”
“We have to talk! I’m a virgin, too, remember?”
“Uhh, fine! The truth? I want Arthur to be my first. I can’t explain it...”
“I can...you’re mates, it’s meant to be... If you don’t do it, nature will ensure it happens.”
“I’m not a wolf. Therefore, I can’t be in heat.”
“I wouldn’t be so certain... even if you can’t be in heat, you can drive him crazy...”
“I already do...” a wicked smile playing on my lips as I remember how we permanently nearly lost control.
“Miriam! The audacity to admit it to your best friend is admirable and, at the same time, disgusting. I don’t want to know about foreplay... let’s get ready!”
"You are contradicting yourself..." She rolled her eyes at me and pulled me by the hand.
We headed for the showers, where I washed very thoroughly.
I was glad Mafalda convinced me to have all my body waxed, even though it was painful. I had sworn never to do it again. Now I was hairless everywhere, and I hoped that Arthur would like that. Was he even a virgin like me? I doubt it. He was such a good kisser, the best kiss I ever had...
After a much-needed shower, we went to our tent and chose our outfits.
Mafalda thought I should wear a sundress, but I had something else planned.
I had in mind a black mini skirt and a sleeveless red top with a bit of cleavage that would look great with my black velvet choker, finishing it off with my red all-stars.
I was going to emo vibe to prove a point because I knew I looked good.
In terms of make-up, I usually left it to my best friend to decide what looked better on me.
Since I hated doing it, I mainly applied mascara and under-eye eyeliner. But this time, I had a request that would make my lips look good.
"Red?! Wow, you are going all in! So I’ll do smoky black eyes, but not too much, to complement your emo look."
I just nodded my head and let her work. She looked quite the opposite of me. She wore a yellow and white sundress that suited her figure with brown camel sandals. Her make-up was natural, and it complemented her natural beauty.
She finished my make-up and showed me her work in the mirror. I looked mischievous, just like I wanted.
“Miriam, you look so hot! The poor guy will lose it as soon as he sees you...”
“And you, my friend, look gorgeous as always. You are so naturally beautiful, and don’t think I noticed how short your dress is or how it hugs your curves...” She turned red as a tomato.
“Oh, you are always the same tease... but thanks.”
“You’re welcome. Now shall we go ahead and the guys meet us there? If they haven’t shown up by now, they’re late...”
“Just got a text from Cody. They had to go for a run with their wolves. They are heading for the showers now.”
“Why? Are they okay?”
“Let me ask...”
We patiently waited for the reply. When her phone chimed and she read the text, she burst into laughter.
“What is it?”
“He said, and I quote ‘Yeah, all good, just Arthur and Finn had to let off some steam, if you know what I mean...XD’ ”
I turned red as a tomato after she said that out loud. I pretended I didn’t understand what it meant to try and dissipate my embarrassment.
“Well, tell him, in that case, we are heading first. I want to be right in front of the stage in the middle...”
“Changing the subject, I see... I won’t push you, then... Done! They’ll meet us there.”
We headed for the concert and planted ourselves in front of the stage.
Soon James Morrison would start, then it would be Xutos e Pontapes followed by Richie Campel, and then Eddie Vedder.
Even though James Morrison wasn’t my kind of music, I was curious to see how he was live, as for xutos e pontapes, epic Portuguese rock band that I grew up listening to, never disappoint me. I’ve seen them live so many times; it was always excellent, and Richie Campel was reggae. Not really what I listened to, but it was still pretty cool.
Now all I needed was Arthur here with me...
As more people started to arrive, the field was half full and still no sign of them. My friend checked her phone as it chimed.
“They’ll be here in five, Cody said... I want to get some beer before the shows start. Do you want some?”
“Sure.”
“Okay, I’ll meet you in a bit.”
She headed toward the beer trailer on the edge of the crowd.
I stood there watching the crew members setting the last details for the performance. The guitars were in place, and they were testing the sounds. I was so excited about it and couldn’t wipe off the smile on my face.
When I sensed someone touching my shoulder, I turned around so fast, expecting to find Arthur, but instead, I saw a dude giving me a smug smirk.
“Oi tudo bem? Nao te importas se eu te fizer companhia esta noite?”
“O meu namorado esta a chegar.”
“Claro, uma gata como tu aqui sozinha, era bom demais para ser verdade. Se mudares de ideias, ja sabes eu estou aqui atras...”
(“Hey, you alright? Do you mind if I keep you company tonight?”
“My boyfriend will be here soon.”
“Off course he will, a girl like you all alone in a place like this was too good to be true. If you change your mind I’m right behind you...”)
As he finished the sentence, a growl was heard behind him. The guy turned around to see a furious Arthur.
“Ah entao tu es o namorado... E na boa meu, eu nao quero problemas.”
(“So you are the boyfriend... I don’t want any problems, man. I’ll take my leave.”)
He walked away, and as he did, Arthur kept his eyes on him with a clenched jaw and furrowed brows.
That was such a hot look on him. He looked like he was going to kill him if he insisted.
He continued looking until I cleared my throat to make him notice me.
Finally, turning his face to me, his expression changed completely.
His eyes became lustful, and I could see he was flustered.
He swallowed dry and opened his mouth to speak, but the words were stuck.
I started to fear I might have outdone it and taken it too far.
