Miriam
When Finn fully shifted I was rendered speechless. He was much bigger than the wolfs I'd seen before. He was even bigger than Diego, and he was an alpha too. His coat was dark brown, he was a beautiful wolf. We enjoyed each other's company until it was time to talk about serious things.
We needed to talk, and I could tell he was nervous. The big glass windows let the light come through, it was warm and inviting. Even though it was summer, it got chilly in here in the night and early mornings.
"So... Mi, huh..." I looked at him giving him an encouraging nod, the faster he told me what was going on, the faster we could see Lucas. "Okay, sorry. So, as you know I am engaged. Her name is Allegra. My grandfather, Antonio, and her dad, Victor, made a deal to keep control of the supernaturals in Europe. But one of the conditions was that one of Antonio's heirs married one of his twins."
I frowned "Twins?"
"Yes, so Victor's heirs are Allegra and Gerard. When my mom mated with my dad, it ruined their plans to unite the families."
It was all a bit confusing and I had so many questions.
"So you mean your mom was once engaged to your fiance's twin?"
"Well they never actually met before, but yes, they were promised." I frowned, it sounded archaic. How can you arrange a marriage like that?
"So how old are they?" He laughed.
"That's what you're worried about? The age gap? They are about 300 years old, I think." I raised my eyebrows.
"So they are not wolves? They're what witches? Vampires?" He seemed to finally understand I was lacking sufficient info.
"Oh yeah, s**t, sorry. Yes, they are vampires." understanding dawned on me and I needed to listen to everything.
"Please continue." He nodded taking a breath.
"So five years ago, when we met, there was an outbreak in the Mediterranean sea, Sirens," he stopped for a minute looking at me knowingly, I took a deep sharp intake of air and told him to continue. "Disaperences started happening, drownings, sunken ships, at it kept getting worse to the point when no supernatural could cross the sea. Somehow they sensed supernaturals in boats and attacked. It got so bad that Victor and Antonio had to get together once more, Antonio had the people to fight, the connections with governments and the money. Victor is a brilliant scientist and has the best private research centre in the world. Together they had a fighting chance, but once again, Victor demanded that the old condition should be agreed upon once more, even though his daughter already had a fated mate." I gasped, covering my mouth with my hands in horror. Who would do that? Separate mates, for interests? Me and Arthur have been separated by circumstances, but our bond wasn't complete at the time, I was still seventeen at the time. To deliberately do that to your own children was despicable. Arthur was looking absently at the window.
"I know love... So Allegra still has a relationship with Frank, that's her mate. But it has to be kept a secret, or Frank could die. The same goes for me and you my love. Can you handle life with me in secret?" I was too stunned to speak, how could I live in secret with him?
"Are you serious? We have a son! What am I supposed to be? Your free time lover?! No forget it, I won't be a part of this."
He kneeled in front of me, taking my hands into his.
"Please my love listen to me. I only love you, you are my luna, and always will be. But I have to keep you and Lucas safe. I can't take risks while Victor is still in power. When Gerard takes over their coven things will be different. But until then, I can't risk you and our son." I was beyond mad, I understood him but I was furious! I mean who wants to be the other woman?!
"Arthur, look, I understand your reasons. but you expect me to just watch you get married to someone else?" He looked hurt by my reaction, but what did he expect? After all the suffering I went through when he left me, he expects me to just accept his conditions to be with me. "Our bond has to go both ways, as much as I can understand why you have to do this I will not submit Arthur."
He took a deep breath, trying to contain Finn from coming out. Telling an alpha you won't submit can't be easy to hear. Too bad.
"Miriam, we are fully mated, I want this to work, I promise it's temporary. I need to gain control of this Siren problem, and then I can tell Victor to f**k off. But right now we don't have a choice. I won't let you go again." I got up and walked to the windows trying to calm down.
"Since last night my life changed again, do you have any idea how many turns my life takes every time I'm with you?" He stayed silent, ready to just listen to me, I took the opportunity to tell him where I stood.
"When you left, I had to go through so much pain, but I also experienced happiness like never before when Lucas was born. I found out I had Siren heritage when all my emotions bottled up, I almost made a nurse kill herself the day I gave birth. I was out of control, in physical and emotional pain, and I felt alone and scared. So I told her to jump out the window and leave me alone, if it weren't for my dad being outside the hospital door and recognising the command voice I would have made that poor woman kill herself. He stopped her in time by countering my order. My dad is half-siren half-human, and with my mother being human, they never thought we would develop siren genes. But I did, my siblings are yet to show any signs." Still, he said nothing just waiting patiently for me to tell him more. "I moved on with my life, and in the navy, I found a purpose, I belonged, all the training in the sea developed my abilities even more. Sustaining breathing underwater indefinitely, swimming speed, sense of smell, and the ability to control others through hypnosis." I stopped talking and turned around to face him, he was clearly masking his true feelings, I couldn't quite get any emotions through our bond either. "That's when I discovered the supernatural division in the Navy, my abilities got their attention. And until yesterday I never fully shifted." He was stunned trying to process the whole story. And when he finally spoke he showed little emotion, trying to be rational.
"So what are you saying? I made you turn into one of those things?" I frowned, feeling hurt and defensive, it pissed me off he called sirens things.
"Things? Is that what you think of sirens, what you think of me? We're things? I said what I said, you most likely played a big part in my full shift."
"Miriam I've seen sirens, and they look nothing like you!" He was enraged, balling his fists as he spoke. "Do you have any idea how many families lost loved ones because of sirens in my pack? Most of my warriors lost someone in siren attacks." I frowned.
"How's that my fault? Or are all wolves good? It's my race, it's part of me. If you can't accept me..." He got up and strode towards me framing my face with his hands.
"Of course I accept you! But why are sirens killing people?"
"How am I supposed to know? Wait... Are you part of SDU?" Jackpot. I got him. His face said it all, he knew what I was talking about! This whole talk about attacks got me thinking he had something to do with the Italian mob. His face went quickly from surprised to emotionless. He stepped back taking a deep breath.
"How do you know about that?"
I scoffed, was he serious?
"Arthur, answer the question. Are you?" He looked collected as if this wasn't bothering him, but I knew better, I could feel he was nervous through our bond.
"I run the whole show, Miriam." I was incredulous.
"What?"
"I am SDU, I created it. Do you even know what it stands for? I stand for Supernatural Defence Union."
"But you torture people..." I spoke in a small voice, trying to make sense of all this.
"Well, if they threaten our existence then yes, we extract information. But our main priority is to aid all supernaturals in distress. Not torture."
"Arthur, you literally cross international borders without consent. The BRN and the RAF have been onto you for years. You steal information from other countries' authorities!" I was trying to calm down but it was hard. "I thought you were the ones who attacked my ship." He looked pissed.
"It wasn't us. But I am going to discover very soon who that was. I don't know where you got this info from, and yes we do break the law, but I'm not going to apologise for it. It keeps my people safe. We only help keep the peace and protect those who can't. Humans think that everything they can't comprehend is to be feared. Why do you think our existence is a secret?"
"Okay. I got it. Calm down..." I moved to place my hand on his arm, and as soon as I did I visibly felt his tension fading.
"I'm sorry, it's too much. I got a million things going on, and I am responsible for thousands of supernaturals. It scares me that right now I don't care about them, I only care about us and our son. If I could I would just disappear with you both. But I can't."
As much as this was a lot of information to take in, my heart broke for him. I could feel his distress, worries, and fear. Most of all he feared for our safety. I had two choices. I could leave, reject our bond and go back to my old life or I could accept him and his life.
Deep in my heart, I knew which one I preferred. I was for the last time surrendering my pride.
I placed my palm on his cheek, looking into his eyes, I wanted his full attention.
"We'll figure it out. Together. But if you ever, lie to me or leave me out of anything, then we are done, Arthur." He gave me a small smile. "How could I ever leave you out?"
I nodded, feeling triumph. "My dad might have answers for us both. Besides, don't you want to meet our son?" I smirked.
"Goddess, I don't deserve you. But I love you. " He wrapped his hand around my waist pulling me to his embrace and kissed me senselessly.
