Nightmare

Miriam I was swimming in the dark sea, a storm, lightning stroke the giant waves forming behind me. I could see land and kept swimming as fast as possible to leave the dangerous sea. Every time I made progress, I felt the tide pulling me back. I could hear a desperate howl in the distance. All of a sudden, something grabbed my foot and started pulling down. I was almost drowning; the water was filling my lungs, burning my insides. I felt the breath of something next to my ear. “You will stay where you belong. I’m owed blood, and she’s not amongst us anymore. I will take what’s mine.” I felt sharp claws in my arms, ripping through my skin. A tail was squeezing my legs, my bones were crushing against each other, and the pain was unbearable. Sharp teeth bite into my shoulder. A bright light almost blinded me. It revealed my great-grandmother Maria. “Miriam, meu amor, tem cuidado, prepara-te. (Miriam, my love, be safe, be ready.) I woke up screaming! Unaware of my surroundings, I couldn’t remember where I was. Yellow eyes looking at me through the darkness scared me even more. My breath became erratic. I was so confused. Large hands grabbed my arms, I was pulled against a warm chest, and the heartbeat helped me calm down. When my brain started making sense of all this, I heard his voice, Arthur, trying to calm me down. “Shh... it’s okay, I’m here, Miriam...” He kissed the top of my head. I started to calm down. I didn’t pull away; instead, I let him comfort me, only wanting to be in his embrace. We stayed like that until I gathered my thoughts, and my breathing returned to normal. “I’m okay now, Art.” he laughed. “Art? I like that...Mimi.” “Mimi?! I was never called Mimi, Mi at most...Mimi was the name of my first turtle!” He laughed. I liked making him laugh. “Well, I like it. It suits you, although I prefer your full name, it’s beautiful.” Slowly, I pulled away from his chest and looked into his eyes. They weren’t yellow anymore, meaning his wolf was back inside. His expression showed that he was comfortable with me being this close. This felt like such an intimate moment. He looked at my lips like he wanted to kiss me, and I desperately wanted him to. “I can’t contain myself if you keep looking at me like that.” “Like what?” I said in a whisper. “You know what.” “Yes, I do. Please do something about it.” I whispered again. He slowly approached my lips, his hand caressing my cheek, his nose brushing mine. Our lips collided at the same time. I was desperate for his touch, and his other hand settled on my hip. I grabbed his neck, pushing him flush against me, intensifying our kiss. A strange sensation of anticipation got the best of me. My core became wet. I was sure this was a sign I was going too far, but at the same time, the last thing I wanted to do was to stop kissing him. I got slightly up on my elbow and straddled him. That seemed to drive him crazy. The next thing I knew, he was seated, our bodies brushing against each other through clothes. His hands came under my shirt, his fingers slowly brushing against the skin on my back. It gave me goosebumps. His touch was gentle, almost like I would break if he was rougher. I caressed his cheek with one hand, and with the other, I drove my fingers through his hair. He groaned in pleasure and flipped us, so now I was lying down with him on top of me. His tongue kept stoking mine; there was a fire between us, and it was consuming me. All I wanted was to stay like this forever, Enjoying the pleasure and our restraint simultaneously; it was sweet torture, like a drug. I wanted more and more. All of a sudden, he stopped, trying to breathe. “I have something to tell you,” he said in a low voice. I already knew what it was; somehow, I knew. I only nodded my head slowly, looking into his eyes. I scotched to the side to give him space like me, and he laid his head on the other pillow. “I found my fated mate today...” my heart shattered a little when he said that. Why were we like this, then? I started to get up when his hand gently held me back. “Please, let me finish.” His plea made me stop moving. “She is amazing, and I don’t know how we will make this work. As you know, I live in another country, and she’s Portuguese. I think she has a boyfriend. If it was you in her place, how would you feel?” “Are you serious, Arthur? I’m on your bed, and you’re talking about your mate, whom you found today?” “Miriam, calm down...” “Don’t you tell me to calm down! How dare you-” He kissed me again, this time with passion until I couldn’t resist him anymore. He broke the kiss and grabbed my face with his hands so I could look into his eyes. “It’s you, Miriam. You are my mate.” I was so shocked I had no words. “That can’t be...I’m human. I thought you would tell me this couldn’t happen because you were waiting for your mate.” “I found her. It’s you. Believe me, Miriam, I knew when our hands touched yesterday for the first time at the beach. You didn’t feel anything at all?” “I...I did, but I thought it was just static electricity... I know humans can be mates to wolfs, but it’s rare. Also, what are the chances? You came here by chance, and we met by...” “By fate, my beautiful mate.” His wolf took hold of him, his yellow eyes shining, looking at me tenderly. “You are mine and Arthur’s fated mate. Please don’t deny us.. it hurts. We need you, and we will take care of you forever. Give us a chance.” All of a sudden, his eyes came back to normal. “Sorry about Finn. He wanted to talk to you for a long time, and I tried to control him, but he pushed through. He can be a bit too much sometimes.” “That’s okay! I... I liked him.” Surprised splashed across his face. “You did?! Now he won’t shut up about it!” I couldn’t stop the giggle that got out of me. “I want to see him someday... in his true form.” “Does that mean you are not freaked out about this?” I let out a nervous laugh. “I am, but I’m also... happy?!” “I know.” “How do you know?” “That’s another thing I wanted to tell you...I can read people’s emotions. That’s how I justified not punching your boyfriend the last time I saw him; he was hurting as he saw us...” “He was? Wait, you can do what? That’s cool, and also, wait a minute... Diego is not my boyfriend! He’s a playboy, and I had a crush on him...until yesterday.” A growl startled me. I weirdly liked that sound. “So you’re telling me you don’t have anything with him?” “No, I don’t.” “And he treats you that way? He’ll regret talking to you the way he did last time.” “He already did, I’m sure.” “He better. I had to contain myself, and the worse was controlling Finn.” “Let’s change the subject. I don’t want to talk about Diego.” “Yeah, you’re right... since we’re changing the subject... there’s something I want to know... what were you dreaming about?” “Oh... a... it’s nothing, don’t worry about it.” “I do. You were so scared.” “I’ve had this nightmare since three months ago. Now and then, it repeats. It’s always the same. I’ll tell you another time, and I don’t want to talk about it now.” “Okay, but I’m here. You can tell me whenever you want.” “Thank you..”. I gave him a look I had just done a few moments ago when we kissed like crazy, so he would understand what I wanted without words. He gave a knowing smirk. “Back to what matters...” he said in a low voice that gave me goosebumps. His lips approached very slowly, brushing against mine. “Your lips are so soft...” He then started kissing my bottom lip, and I responded by licking his top lip. That was it. He lost it, kissing me with so much hunger and passion. We were having another make-out session, which felt even more intense this time. I didn’t know how long I could keep this desire burning in my centre. I was in the clouds, and his kisses drove me crazy. When things could get better, my stomach growled, and he parted our lips with a worried expression. “Ups... Sorry...” “You’re hungry? Have you eaten anything?” “Not exactly... I had a cereal bar before showering.” “I’ll cook you an early breakfast. How does that sound?” “Cook me breakfast? Like what?” “You know, eggs and bacon?” “That sounds a bit too heavy to have in the morning.” “Well, you are starving. Besides, it’s not even full English.” “Full English? Like what?” “You know, baked beans, sausages, hashbrowns, toast etc.” “What? You eat that in the morning?” “Sure I do, not every day, but at least on Sundays.” “That sounds too heavy at this time.” Straight away, my stomach growled again. “Well, I’m cooking it, and you’re eating.” “Where are you even getting bacon and eggs from?” “The chiller, it’s connected to electricity.” “They have those here?” “Yap, the cables are all over the camp. You bring your chiller box, and boom, no more canned food.” “Really? It must be new because last year it didn’t have those.” “Yes, really, they must have known I was coming and got it updated.” That made me giggle and roll my eyes at him. He kissed my cheek before getting up. “You can stay here. I’ll be back soon.”
