Miriam
He got up and went out of the tent, and I could hear him working, trying not to make much noise.
I felt like closing my eyes. At the same time, images from this crazy day flooded my mind.
How am I supposed to be a werewolf's mate and be completely okay with it? I never wanted anything like this. Why can’t it just be a summer thing?
I took a deep breath, and the smell of bacon invaded my nostrils, making my stomach rumble as a protest. It smelled delicious, and I needed to eat something. To think Art was cooking for me made me blush and want to hide in a dark hole, so I covered my head with the cover. It smelled like him; it was now my favourite smell.
I heard him enter the tent and zip it back shut.
“It’s ready! Why are you covering your head?”
“Suddenly embarrassment from realising you’re cooking for me!”
“Come on, don’t be silly. Eat before it goes cold.”
So exhaling, I sat up. He smiled at me, handing me the plate.
“Here.” he handed me the plate and pointed to two mugs steaming on the floor.
“Hope you like tea?”
“I do, but no sugar or milk.”
“What, no milk and no sugar? Don’t you like it? I made it without it, but it’s because I don’t have any.”
“I like camomile tea. I guess English breakfast is fine, but if you add those, it loses its natural taste, which I prefer.”
“Noted. Now eat your food before it goes cold.”
“What about you?”
“I’m not hungry, so just some tea will do.”
I looked at my plate and started to dig in. It was so delicious, and I was starving. I finished so fast.
“Wow, you were hungry.” I blushed.
“Yes, I was, thanks.”
“No problem, so what do you want to do? Sleep?” As he said that, I was opening my mouth, I felt so tired, and he laughed.
“Let’s try to sleep, shall we?”
“Yeah, I would like that.”
He nodded and grabbed my plate and our mugs, setting them aside. I lay again on the bed and took his place next to me.
I closed my eyes, hoping he would touch me somehow, and so he did. I felt his hand grabbing mine and connecting our fingers, all without a word. It felt so comforting. I focused on my breathing and noticed his matched mine. Soon enough, I was lost in a comfortable deep sleep.
Arthur POV
I woke up with Cody’s voice in my head.
“Arthur, you have got company?”
“You woke me up, you twat.”
“That’s offensive... who is it? Is it her?”
“Yes, it is, and she’s still sleeping, so don’t you dare make noise!”
“Wouldn’t dream of it. How did you get her to come with you?”
“It’s a long story... I’ll tell you later.”
“Okay, I’m going to the beach. See you later?”
“Do me a favour before you go?”
“What?”
“Tell Mafalda that Miriam’s with me. She texted her, but I’m not sure she got the message.”
“You’re so lucky, you know? I was going to pass there to see if they wanted to go to the beach. I’ll tell her, don’t worry.”
“Thanks. I’ll call you later.”
“No worries mate, remember, behave...”
That was going to be a challenge. It was hard to behave with Miriam around.
All my defences came down when I was with her.
Her hair was spread all over her face, creating a cascade of silky brown curls. Her rosy lips hypnotised me. She didn’t need make-up. She was naturally beautiful.
But now the question remains, how will we make this work? We have one week left. I wanted to make this work. No, I had to make this work! I could move to Portugal after my studies or do an Erasmus programme... Unless she could come with me when she turned 18.
Finn finally gave his opinion.
“We need to talk about it to enjoy the rest of our time together.”
He was right...
I started slowly removing her locks from her face until I noticed she woke up. She felt embarrassed. I could feel it.
“I know you’re awake..”.
She opened one eye very slowly, then the other.
“Morning, beautiful.” - she blushed, and her cheeks turned into a shade of deep red.
“Morning...I should probably go...”
“Not without a morning kiss...”
“No way! I need to brush my teeth.”
“I don’t care.”
“I do!”
I pulled myself closer to her.
"Is that so?" she shivered, getting goosebumps all over her skin.
Her brown-green eyes were fixed on mine. I pulled myself up on my elbow and started descending to kiss her. Her hands touched my face, and she kept one on my face and the other on my hair.
I didn’t give her time to think, kissing her passionately. I could never get enough of her, it was intoxicating, and I was such a goner.
We finally broke the kiss to regain our breath.
“We should probably talk...” I said in a low voice, and she immediately sat straight.
“What is it?”
“Hey, chill... come here.” She laid her head on my chest as I gestured.
It made me so proud to have her in my arms.
“I want us to discuss how we will deal with this distance. I want to spend every minute I can with you.”
“Are you saying you want to be in a relationship?”
“I am. This is, of course, if you’ll have me.”
“I... I would like that... Will it work? I mean, what about the future?”
“We have to try at least... I can’t live without you.” She rolled to the side pillow and looked me in the eyes with expectation.
“Say that again.” Smiling softly at her, I let my heart speak for me.
“I can’t live without you, Miriam. I know I can’t. I will wait for you for as long as it takes. I will move to Portugal if that’s where you wish for us to live. I’ll take you with me when the time comes if you wish to go to England. It doesn’t matter where. I want to know that you are with me on this. The rest can be damned. I don’t care about anything else.”
She had shiny eyes like she was about to cry. She grabbed my face with her hands, pulled me to her, and kissed me. I let her set the pace. She was clearly showing me how she felt about what I said.
“So, is this serious to you? You wish for me, a human, to be your mate?”
“Without question, Miriam. You are my mate, my other half. Without you, I’m incomplete. It doesn’t matter to me what you are as long as you’re mine.”
“So, will we text and Skype?”
“Yes, we will. Do you want to be my girlfriend?"
Her face lit up with such a sweet smile.
“Yes...I do.”
We kissed again, taking our time to enjoy each other’s mouths.
I felt my heart almost exploding with happiness. She said YES!
Her eyes were wet, and I tasted her salty tears during our kiss. I broke our kiss and looked into her eyes. With my thumb, I cleaned all her tears.
“Miriam, I never want to cause your tears, but if I do, I promise you, I will always catch them. Even if I’m not with you in the flesh, I’m with you here.” I pressed my palm to her heart.
After discussing our hopes and dreams, I suggested we join our friends.
We went to the beach to enjoy our short but unforgettable summer.
The summer I found her, my Miriam.
