Arthur
I was not in a good mood.
After we returned, I ate dinner and grabbed one of my books to distract my mind.
Cody just gave me space. He knew that silence helped me gather my thoughts and understood that I needed to take Miriam off my head. This whole afternoon was amazing and it was also s**t when Diego showed up. My blood boiled every time I thought about how he talked to her. What a piece of s**t.
I was reading, and my mind was constantly distracted, not paying attention to the book until I gave up.
My scalp felt itchy from the salt and sand. A shower would be a good idea; there was probably no one at this time, so it is ideal for cleaning my body and mind.
I got out of my tent, and as I was passing Cody’s tent, I heard him snoring, making me laugh and glad I decided we needed separate tents.
I was reaching the showers when I heard someone singing; trying to recognise the song, I approached the wall behind where the sound was coming from.
'When you goooo, would you even turn to saaayyy, I don’t love you, like I did yesterdaaaay... Sometimes I cry so hard from pleading...So sick and tired of all the needless beating..'
This song was 'I don’t love you' by my chemical romance. Not the type of music I listened to but still a good one. I was sure it was a girl singing; what a voice, my Goddess!
Maybe she’ll stop singing when I go in, but I wanted to be done with my shower. Against my better judgment, I went in.
Not wanting to waste more time, I walked in, not looking at the corner where she was. She didn’t notice me, so I turned on the cold water to cool down while facing the wall.
Enjoying the refreshing feeling, I started washing. She continued singing. How weird...didn't she hear me turning on the shower? Curiosity taking the best of me, I turned around to find a naked girl singing and gesturing her hand as if it were a microphone.
I was too stunned to say anything. I looked away, and then I looked back; she turned around, and everything went silent when I saw her face. I was speechless, not knowing what to do.
Then, anger came over me.
This girl is crazy! What’s she thinking? Coming here by herself, this late at night, and as if that wasn’t enough, she’s also naked...
I was so angry. I couldn’t even enjoy the fact I saw her naked.
She saw me and gasped with a confused look on her face.
“Arthur?!”
I grabbed my towel and almost ran to her.
“Please shut down the water and come here. You can’t be naked in here; let me wrap you.”
“I was thinking about you, Arthur...”
I like how my name sounded on her lips.
She looked at me seductively, which made me swallow loudly.
“What are you doing here alone? Do you know this is a mixed shower? Turn that off now and come here!”
“Why? I’m washing. Don’t you want to help me?”
“Are you drunk?” at this point, I nearly picked her up myself and wrapped her.
“I did drink tequila shots. Maybe I am drunk...”
“Are you out of your mind? You were drinking?”
Enraged, I switched off the tap for her and engulfed her with my towel. Now her breasts were pressed against my chest. Damn, I need control; she’s not herself.
She lifted her eyes to mine, probably surprised when she realised she was naked.
Suddenly, she lifted her toes and slowly pressed her lips against mine. I immediately kissed her back; her lips were soft, and I only wanted to deepen the kiss.
What was I thinking? This was wrong. She wasn’t herself.
I stepped back, slowly breaking our kiss, making her sober for a moment.
I cleared my throat, and she touched her lips surprisedly. I turned around, not wanting to see more than I already did.
“Oh my God, Arthur, I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to.”
“Don’t be! Just not this way... please get dressed. I’ll take you to your tent.”
“I need to finish washing my hair...”
“Please put something on..”
“Oh, sure! I wi-...”
“What is it?”
”I forgot to bring a change...”
“You can use my clean towel, and I’ll give you my shirt. Are you done showering?”
“I just need to rinse my hair...”
“Well, then I’ll finish my shower too.”
I grabbed my shirt and handed it to her, keeping my eyes on the side of the wall the whole time.
"Thank you."
"No worries."
"Can you turn around so I can put my bikini back on, please?"
We were both embarrassed, and there were no words...
I can’t believe this girl.
I walked back to my running water; I stood under the cool spray, which was much appreciated. Trying to lighten the mood, I decided to stay with my back facing her but talk about something else.
“Didn’t know you could sing...:
“Oh... uh...well, I... thought I was alone.”
“I saw that.”
“You know what, Arthur? I do what I want! We just met! Who are you to tell me what I should do or not?”
“You’re right. I’m no one.”
I turned off the water, ruffling my hair to dry as much as possible, with rage bursting at her fiery attitude.
“Do as you wish. I’m going now. Good night.”
I started to walk away.
“Wait! Arthur!”
I smiled at myself before turning around with a serious expression.
“Yeah?”
She had her long wavy dark hair stuck to her face. I could see her flushed cheeks in the darkness of the night. Wrapped in her towel, she was a vision, and it made it harder for me to be upset.
She took a deep breath.
“Sorry for lashing out. You’re right; I shouldn’t be here like that; it’s not safe. I was embarrassed and didn’t know how to react to your teasing.”
“Has anyone ever told you that you’re too blunt sometimes?”
“Many times... what can I say? I’m an Aires... No time to waste on bullshit. If I make a mistake, I like to own it and get over it.”
“Aires, hmm? Whatever that means, you sure need to chill sometimes...”
She looked at me like she couldn’t believe me.
“Come on! I’m chilled.”
I laughed.
"It’s funny how you get flustered quickly with anything. I’ll take you to your tent.”
“But my bikini is wet, and it will get your shirt wet too.”
I turned around to give her privacy.
“I have more, don’t worry.”
I heard her putting the shirt on and walking to me slowly, handing me the towel, blushing.
“Thank you.”
I just accepted it and nodded. My shirt covered her until mid-thigh.
"Let's go... it's getting late."
We left the showers. I turned to her, realizing I had no idea where she was staying.
“Which way is your tent?”
“I’m not sure...”
“Call your friend...”
“Her phone is usually mute, and she was asleep when I left... Don’t worry; I’ll find my way. I’ll give you the shirt tomorrow, promise.”
She started to turn around and walk away. Was she serious? How could I let her go alone in the dark, looking for a tent while drunk? I grabbed her hand to stop her. Tilting her head up to meet my eyes.
“Hey, it’s okay if you don’t remember, but I can’t let you go by yourself in this state, Miriam.”
A minute of silence passed between us.
“Okay.” She seemed surprised and didn’t argue with me this time.
“Text Mafalda that you’re okay and that you are with Cody and me.”
“What do you mean?”
“You’re sleeping in my tent tonight.”
“What? No! I’ll be fine! I’ll find my way.”
“Miriam, please, I won’t be able to sleep if I’m not sure you made it back to your tent.”
“Why not? We just met!”
“Yet, I feel like I’ve known you forever.”
She gasped silently.
“You know I’m a wolf. I can’t fight this urge to protect you; please, just come with me.”
After considering my words for a few seconds, she nodded and finally replied.
“Okay, fine! I’ll go with you.”
“Then let's go.. don't forget to text Mafalda.”
“I’ll do it now.”
We started walking back to my tent, and she tripped straight away on a salient tree root, losing her balance, but before she could fall, I grabbed her, pulling her back against my chest.
When she regained her balance, I released her. Blushing, her voice shook as she spoke.
“It’s too dark. I didn’t see the roots of that tree. Sorry.”
“It’s okay, hold my hand...”
