The pain hit her like lightning. Akira doubled over in the middle of the forest, clutching her arms as silver light crawled under her skin. The full moon above was wrong — too big, too red. A blood moon. And it wasn’t supposed to rise for another month. Kael was already there, kneeling beside her. “Fight it,” he growled. His voice was rough, half-human already. “If you shift here, they’ll smell you.” “Who?” Akira gasped. Sweat ran down her face. “Them.” He pointed into the trees. One by one, pairs of red eyes opened in the dark. Not gold like Kael’s. Not like hers. Hunters. The ones who’d wiped out her family 10 years ago. Akira’s heart slammed. The mark on her shoulder blade — the crescent her mother told her to hide — was burning. It meant one thing. *She was the last Lunar Heir.* A twig snapped. A voice, low and cruel, cut through the night. “Found her. The pup with royal blood.” Kael shifted. No warning. No hesitation. Bones cracked. Fur tore through skin. In 3 seconds he was a massive black wolf, teeth bared, standing between Akira and the trees. Akira had a choice. Run and stay human. Or shift and fight. The moon pulsed. The mark burned hotter. And with a roar she didn’t recognize as her own, Akira let go. Fur. Claws. Scent. Power. When the pain faded, she was no longer the girl who hid. She was a silver wolf with eyes like the moon. The forest went silent. Then the first hunter lunged. ---
