Chapter 9

Today is Tuesday and my first day in my new office. Being promoted to a higher position has always been my dream when I entered this work and I can say that it is really fulfilling because I just achieved another goal in my life.   My father even cried when he found out that I was promoted to the job, and I know he was happy. He even promised me that he would prepare a simple party when I got home next week.   I'm currently in my office now and I've been given a day to fix my stuff here. I was organizing some of my books on the shelf when I suddenly remembered that I had brought the pocketbook about giants and werehorses. I opened my bag and I saw it at the bottom. I reached for it and a smile plastered on my lips as I stared at it. But that smile immediately fades when I remember that I hadn't even started looking for the remaining giant. I faced my PC and went straight to the chrome. I was about to type when I thought that I didn’t really know what to search for. It is my decision to help, so I should do my best to find him and look for an answer. I’ve been staring at my screen for 30 minutes and until now I couldn’t find an answer. Maybe if someone saw me doing research on giants and werehorses, they'd laugh at me. Because the truth is that they no longer exist in this world.   Hello, those were just old beliefs that should not have been brought here to the city.   I was about to get up to get a coffee when my book fell to the floor. I rolled my chair to step back and pick it up when I noticed that it was open and exactly on the page where the ‘lists of names of Giants here in Manila’ were opened.   I was stunned for a moment before I picked it up. Did this book just give me a hint on how to find the remaining giant? I smiled before facing the PC. I tried to search the name ‘Garet Tuazon’ Wow? His name sounds unique. Is this his way to hide from his enemies? Even his name is trending. I was smiling while I was waiting for it to search, but I immediately frowned when nothing was found.   I groaned as I leaned back in my swivel chair and massaged my temples. How can I find him? I know his name already, but I don’t even look for him on the internet.   I was calming myself when the door suddenly opened. I instantly panicked and closed all the tabs on my PC screen. My heart was beating so fast as I glared at Zoelle, who just entered my office with a cup of coffee in her hands.   "Don’t you know how to knock?" I asked in an irritated voice.   "Oh sorry, take 2," she joked, but I just rolled my eyes at her.   "What are you doing here?" I asked even though I already knew why she came here.   "Coffee, and you? Why are you working already? I thought you’d fix your things. " She asked curiously.   She even took a glance at my PC and thank God I’ve already closed the tabs. I got the coffee out of her hands and took a sip before answering her.   I replied, "I just took a rest."   "Whoa, this is big, unlike your old office," she exclaimed as she roamed my office.   Yeah, this office is more spacious than before. There is also a wide couch and a center table in front of my office table. The windows are big too, and the view was really good from up here. You can watch the sunset from here and the city lights below.   My office attire has been changed also, so they could easily tell my position here in the company. It also has air conditioning and a restroom. So, I don't have to go down to the bathroom. This place was so refreshing.   "I want to work with you here," she said excitedly, and I laughed at her.   "Work hard, then. I’m telling you, Zoelle, I don’t want you to do the things that Mr. Demeco did. " I told her seriously and she nodded and nodded.   "I won't, ma'am," she said, which made me chuckle.   She stayed at my office until lunch and helped me fix my stuff. She said that she’s not done with her work yet, but she said she will only continue it this afternoon. We decided to go down but buy something to eat.   We were in the elevator, and it stops on every floor. It stopped on the 8th floor and some of my co-workers entered. Their eyes widened as they saw me.   "Wow? Acting like you didn’t see me for years "I joked, and she laughed.   "Oh gosh! I missed seeing your face here on the 8th floor. It’s just refreshing because no strict woman comes out of the elevator in the morning, "she complained.   Being strict was their first impression of me, which I totally deny. I just have this serious face and I become more serious when I’m talking about my work. I also get along with them every break and free time, so they’re still close to me.   "Is that so? Then I’ll visit you here every morning, "I smiled, and she clasped her hands.   His joke, which was supported by the rest of our co-workers, was "We're going to give a cheer every time you come out of the elevator, it's as if you immediately smile at us."   "I just moved on to another office. There is nothing new there. It’s still me, nothing changed "I said as they gasped.   "You didn’t just move to another office; you even got a higher position than us and actually we should call you with respect. Ma’am Theia or Ma’am Zabala?" She even tilted her head to think.   "I’m not used to it." I commented, which they instantly agreed with. I immediately reached the cafeteria where we were already lined up to buy our food. We also ate it there and talked about what happened before we thought of going back to his office. I can’t help but marvel at how nice and clean my new office is.   I also can't believe that I'm going to work from now on. I went straight to my seat to start working again. I opened my emails and directly saved the files that I still needed to proofread. I winced while reading other articles. I will admit that when the readers read it, it was not pleasant to listen to, so I immediately revised it to improve the writing of the information.   It took me 5 hours to finish all my work, and my back hurt from the fatigue. I turned off my PC to prepare to leave, but I noticed orange skies outside my window. I smiled as I looked at it.   The sun is now setting, and as I said, this is my favorite part of the day. Since our company was near the bay, the colors reflected in the water, so they also turned orange. She was so beautiful to look at.   I was mesmerized when someone knocked on the door. Zoelle entered on her third knock. "I came here to see the view clearly," she said and went near me.   I watched her mouth and eyes widen as she saw the sunset view. She didn’t stop staring at the view until she got her phone from her bag. She started capturing the view and even recorded it, as if it was her first time witnessing it.   "I’m so in love with the place!" She shouted and looked at the photos with a look of amazement on her face.   We stayed at the office until 6:00 until I invited her to go home.     "Let’s go home, it's already dark," I said, and she nodded.   We left the company and went to her car. Since I’d already posted my article yesterday, the reporters stopped going to my apartment, so it was finally safe from me. You didn’t expect that, right? I was a reporter, but I don’t want to be in the media.   "Ahm, Zoelle. You don’t need to fetch me tomorrow. There were no reporters already, so they didn’t need my interview, "I told her as soon as she stopped in front of the apartment.   "Are you sure? I insist, "she asked, and I just nodded at her.   "I can handle it now. You can still visit me here or visit you when we’re free." I assured her and she nodded.   "Alright, just call me if something happens again. Bye!" She just said, "So I already closed her door."   "Take care!" I shouted back.   I saw her car leave and went inside my apartment. This is my daily routine and I’m already used to it. I just took a quick shower and headed to my bedroom. I don’t usually eat dinner, usually when I’m tired from work.   I was about to take a nap when I remembered Garet, the Giant. My research earlier was interrupted because of Zoelle, so I should look for Garet as soon as possible. I put out my laptop and tried to search his names all over the internet.   I still haven't received anything. Aargh.! How can I find you, man? You’re so unreachable! I didn’t stop searching for him on the internet until midnight. My brain was so drained, and he was nowhere to be found.   The book said that these folklores had this knowledge of shapeshifting. It’s like an ability to imitate one's own appearance or manipulate the body so that it resembles another person. If Garet was able to do these things and tried to act like he was following people's vogue, he should have his own social media.   But nothing, because he’s too private. I opened YouTube and decided to watch some stories about Giants and Werehorses, and what I heard sounded all too familiar.I used to hear those when I was still in the province. There’s nothing new with those stories, and I still have no idea of how to look for him.   I closed my laptop in annoyance before I stood up to drink some water. I knew that Garet was just nearby, and in a few days of searching, I can find him. I am a journalist and I do searches and seek information.   That thought stayed in my mind the whole night and I couldn’t even go to sleep. My body was so drained, yet I couldn’t sleep because of that. I heaved a sigh before I forced myself to sleep. This day was so stressful.
