Kai Virtanen’s POV
I reached the rooftop as I went out of the door. It was chilly but thanks to the guard that was guarding the door, he gave me a heavy coat that helped me to keep the warmth in my body. I don’t see anything at all, except for a room that must have been the location for our introduction. However, there was no Princess Kathleen Remes as far as I can see.
“Hello?” I shouted as I looked around the roof. Silence.
“Anybody here?” I said as I looked around before I went to the room that was lit up. I went to investigate there. Maybe my fiancée was waiting for me there. I knocked on the door before I went inside. It was unlocked as I turned the knob.
“Hello? Is anyone here?” I said as I looked at the table that was lightened up with candles. Maybe I shouldn’t be here—
“Come in, make yourself at home,” a voice said as I walked further inside the room. Then, I went to sit at the table, following the voice that was booming inside the room but no one was around.
“My name is Kai, I was here to meet my fiancée,” I said as I was surrounded by silence.
“Great, now I’m talking to myself again,” I mumbled before a door busted open. A silhouette was standing in front of the door that made her shadow blinding as I closed my eyes from the sudden light.
“Hello, beloved. I’m here to see you for the first time,” the voice said before a guard came in and a woman was behind him. I looked at the woman and she was dressed traditionally. I knew Finnish women would never do it in this modern era. But again, this was a Princess. She has the etiquette to follow. She slowly raised her face and opened her eyes. I could see her eyes were something unusual. Nothing like I had seen before, but from this lighting, it was hard to pinpoint what color it was.
And then, I saw her face which I had seen earlier. That woman burst into my cousin’s private room and peeped at him and his fiancé.
“Hello,” she said. Even her voice was like an angel's. I blinked my eyes.
“My name is Kathleen and I am your fiancée. Are you Kai Virtanen?” She asked as she looked at me. I gulped before I nodded at her. Did she not remember me from earlier?
“Very well. You can go now,” she said before the guard looked at me like he was about to eat me. He nodded before leaving me with this beautiful angel. The door cracked open before it was closed.
“Is he gone?” Kathleen asked. I looked at her, furrowing my eyebrows at her question.
“What?”
Was it the best reply that I can think of at that moment? How pathetic.
“My bodyguard. Is he gone?” She asked again. I nodded as I was mesmerized by her.
“Oh, thank god,” she said before she removed the traditional scarf and the dress. She flopped it open before she stepped out of it. I was shocked by her action alone. Was this Princess crazy?
“Wait! We don’t even know each other,” I said as I closed my eyes. I don’t know what happened next but I knew nothing that I expected from this introduction was happening.
“You can look now,” Kathleen said, making me move my hands from my eyes. She was wearing a short, black spaghetti strap dress. I looked at her, bewildered by her behavior. Kathleen arched her eyebrows at me.
“What? Never seen a woman in a dress before?” She asked as she flopped her long legs on top of the table. I gulped as I looked at her. She arched her eyebrows at me again as I looked at the food in front of me. Suddenly, they were the main focus of my eyes.
“Want some?” She offered some grapes that she was eating, taking them from the plates on the table.
“No, thank you. It just… can you put your legs down?” I asked her politely as I was looking away from her. Kathleen was amused by my statement as she was chuckling softly.
“Why? I’m not going to pounce on you,” she said casually.
“It’s not you, it’s just…I’m afraid of what I will do to you,” I mumbled. I didn’t think she would hear but she was flopping her legs down, that made me relieve the breath that I was holding in before she stood up and showed her cleavage to me.
Oh, dear…
Kathleen Remes’ POV
I never thought that the notorious player Kai Virtanen was this timid and shallow person. I thought that he must be against this marriage, but he just looked like a lost puppy. I put my legs down as he asked me if I didn’t believe that he would be this nice. So I decided to lean in front of him.
“What are you going to do about it, Kai?” I asked as he was looking down at the ground this whole time. I went to touch his cheek before something unexpected happened. My back was hitting the table as Kai was holding my hands at the side of my head. I blinked my eyes as I did not see that coming. At. All.
“What the—” I said before Kai was looking at me wickedly. Well, this was new, for his eyes glinted with mischief.
“So, you’re my fiancée? I thought you might be more beautiful than my first crush,” he said huskily as he was looking up and down my body. I narrowed my eyes at him.
“Eyes up here, buddy,” I said as I looked at him. He looked into my eyes as if his sea-green eyes were glowing in dim lights.
“Did the cat get your tongue, my dear?” He said as he was closing in on me. I smiled at him. Two can play this game.
“Well, I thought you might be more notorious than this,” I said as he looked at me sharply. At least I got some reaction from him. I smirked.
“Believe me, Princess, I was controlling myself as I didn’t want to give myself to you for the first time we met,” he said as he released me from his hold and went to the wall to lean on. I got up from the table as I was massaging my wrists. Man, this man’s grip can kill!
“So, what do you want from me?” I asked as I looked at him. He was standing still, as if his eyes were never moving from my face. Silence. Absolute silence. I clicked my tongue before I was rolling my eyes at him. I got off the table as I went to him.
“Hello? Are you there?” I asked as I was standing in front of him, waving my hand at his face. But Kai ignored me. He moved his head to the side to avoid my sight. Oh, you just did not…
“Hello? Can we just have a decent conversation with each other for one second?” I said as I put my hands on my hips as I looked at him. He sighed before he looked at me darkly.
“There’s nothing that you can give me. I don’t even like you,” he said as he was putting a bored expression on his handsome face. I scoffed at his confession.
“Then why do you agree to marry me then?” I asked as I arched my eyebrows at him. He looked to the side again. I just remembered that my hair was black like my sister's. And we had the same eye color. Wait, does that mean…
“Do you like my sister?” I blurted out to him, catching him off guard with my question.
“What? Why do you think that?” Kai said, grimacing as he looked at me.
“Your sister is with my cousin. I could never take her away from him,” he said as he was leaning on the wall even more. I arched my eyebrows at him since he entirely gave away his weakness. I smiled wickedly as a plan formed inside my head.
Eureka!
“I can help you to have her, but you also have to help me,” I said as I looked at him. Kai looked at me with a little bit of surprise as I just said that I have the code to have nuclear power. I mean, I could, but that was for a later discussion.
“You think you could break them? You saw the love in their eyes when they looked at each other. It was unbreakable,” he said as he was looking into my eyes again. Good, this is a good sign. I smiled before I was smoothing my hands on his chest. It was hard like a marble stone.
“I can and I will make her fall for you, head over heels,” I said as I looked at him.
“How? You don’t even know anything about love,” he said as he was now putting his hands on my hands before removing them from touching his chest. I obliged before I looked at my nails as I was waiting for him to finish.
“Are you finished?” I asked him lazily, looking into his sea-green eyes. Wariness was inside his eyes before he sighed.
“Why are you so eager to help me?” He asked as he looked at me. I smiled at him.
“Just tell me something. Why do you like my sister but you accept my hands in marriage?” I asked Kai as I was taking a seat at the table, crossing my legs as I knew it would never affect him. He was in love with another woman.
“She is the perfect wife and daughter. I can see that Princess Katherine is the perfect match for me. Your father is never mad at her and she is good to her loyal subjects, helping those in need,” he said as his eyes were dreamy. I can feel that my heart was aching as people viewed my sister like that.
I didn't know what the people of this country viewed me as.
“The next question, why do you accept the proposal?” I asked as I looked at him. Kai came to the end of his dream about my sister before looking at me with such hatred.
“I have to accept the proposal or I might lose my inheritance,” he said darkly. I arched my eyebrows at him. I see. So Kai was threatened by his grandfather that he might lose his inheritance if he did not marry the princess.
How typical of Levine Virtanen to pull such a stunt on his grandson.
“So, I’m just a pawn for you to get your inheritance?” I asked for clarity. Kai turned to look away from me as he sighed.
“Yes, my grandfather made it in his will that if I don’t get married by 25, I will lose it all,” he said as I could see that he was clutching his knuckles until they turned white.
“And when will that be?” I asked. He sighed again.
“This year, one month from now,” he said as he looked at me. I stood up from my seat and walked toward him.
“Don’t you worry, Kai... We will have my sister in your arms before the end of the contract,” I said cheerfully as I patted his shoulder.
“Wait, but what will you get in return?” He asked as I walked out of the room. I turned around to look at him, smirking wickedly at him.
“I will have fun,” I said as I walked out of the room to devise the plan that was already forming inside my head.
