Chapter 3.23

Chris Virtanen’s POV “NO!” I shouted as I just looked around. Kiara and Charles were not out. I don’t know what happened as I was sitting there, in front of the burning building. The response team has been efficient as I was breathing hard. “Chris,” Sophia said as she was touching my shoulders. I jerked away from her touch as if it burned me. “Chris, it’s not your fault,” she said as I was shaking my head. “It’s always mine. It will always be my fault. I’m sorry,” I said before I ran away from the scene. I don’t think I can face anyone anymore. I need to get out of here. I don’t want to risk Sophia in a bad way. I was a curse. “Chris! Stop!” She shouted as I could hear that she was coming after me. I took a turn as I had been doing. She did not know about my past and I will not let her into danger ever again. Even the danger was me. Charles Debrun’s POV Okay, my back was hurting like hell. I don’t know where I was but I was coughing very loudly. I don’t think that I was looking for something until I remembered the bombing. Loud bang. Touching hands. Kiara’s face. I jerked up from the bed and I did not know I was in one. I was looking around as the unfamiliar room was coming into my view. The wall was white as if it was a hospital. Maybe I was inside one. I was looking at my arms, there were wires everywhere as I was trying to jerk them off. “Don’t struggle. You still need to recover, my boy,” Boss said as he was leaning on the chair while reading a scientific journal. No doubt it was my father’s again. “Where am I?” I asked him as I was looking around. The window was at the far side of the corner, behind Boss. “Lyon, France,” he said casually. “Lyon?” I asked. He nodded. “France?” I asked again. He nodded again. “How the bloody hell did I get here then? The last thing I remember was that there was a bombing and I was dying inside the burning building. I don’t remember I was on the flight to Lyon,” I said as I was feeling some of my muscles were being restrained by my movements. The boss looked at me with those palest grey eyes before he sighed. He got up from the chair before he was standing next to my side of the bed. He tossed the journal in front of me as I took it and read. The entry was 1 week before my father’s death, according to the boss. Entry 197 I have made some significant discoveries about the teleportation serum. It seems that Luna was able to go to the place where she felt safe when she was in distress. I was happy about it as I knew that she could get out of Danial’s clutches doubted but I doubted he would let her go. Not until he extracted it from her blood. The person that was exposed to the teleportation serum will be going back to the place that they loved most in their lifetime. Either it’s childhood place, the house that they grew up in or the public place where they felt like being themselves. It will help them to recover and perhaps even more. They can get away from the distress that is coming from the outside environment and that is a splendid discovery if the affected person was in a time of need to get away from something or someone that they didn’t like. Hoping to get more results, as I would ask Luna to get inside the tanks full of her fear and perhaps my theory was correct. Albert Debrun, December 18th I tossed the journal as I was trying to comprehend what was happening. I was supposed to be in Zurich but I was in Lyon, France instead. I did not know where I was actually, but being in the city where I was raised by my adoptive parents will conclude one thing. I was affected as well as Kiara was affected by the teleportation serum. “Bloody hell,” I exclaimed as I was breathing heavily after I learned the truth. I don’t know if I was ever exposed to it, but I think there was no other explanation for this happening. “Do you ever wonder why you could teleport when Kiara kissed you or whatever you guys were doing to get from one place to another?” the Boss asked me. I shook my head, as I didn’t think that would need any explanation at all. “I thought she could do it even though it was a normal person,” I said as I was rubbing my face. I have the teleportation ability in my blood. But how do I acquire them? I don’t remember my parents ever injecting them. “Albert knew that if the serum that he was working on was a success, he needed to keep a secret from Danial Clarke. Luna Hoffman was not the first test subject but it was your father,” Boss said as he was looking at me. I turned to look at him as if he had just told him he was an alien. “What?” “That’s right. Danial got a whiff that the serum worked so he’d put it in his wife’s bloodstream. Your father protested but the damage was already done. Danial Clarke stated that he was selfish to use it on himself rather than share the discovery for the benefit of others. “But of course, at that time, Danial Clarke had not shown his obsession. He wished to use Luna to be his serum bank after she developed the symptoms and, eventually, that, ability. And now, it can be transported to other kin of one’s blood. You and Kiara are the living proof of how the teleportation serum worked,” Boss said as he was looking at me. I blinked at him as I was raking my finger through my hair. I cannot comprehend what was going on. I have one more question that I wanted to know. “Was it possible for us to have the cure for this serum?” I asked the Boss as he was reading the scientific journal while his pale eyes were on me. “No, Albert halted all the work and they never tested if there was any cure for it. But I do know this, you guys have to disappear because, eventually, the bad guys will be after you for your blood,” he said before he took off from the room. I was staring at the window that was shining with sunset. I sighed as I felt exhausted with all this chasing of finding the truth. Maybe I should take a nap first. But the last thing that came to my mind was where Kiara had landed? Sophia Hansen’s POV “Do you got anything at all?” I asked the workers to look for Charles and Kiara’s bodies. There was none under the rumble of the burnt building. “None, ma’am,” the worker said as I nodded at them. It has been hard because I have been looking for them for days now. I don’t think they survived the fire, as well as Chris, who went to God-knows-where. I sighed. I had lost something that day and now, I can’t even find two people that helped me take down the maniac lord. “Anything to report?” I asked my officer as she was approaching with a tab in her hands. I asked her to find Chris Virtanen on the night of his disappearance. I know that his past was a bloody one, but I will not let him slip. Not anymore. “I have something that your uncle sent to me, ma’am,” she said as I took the tab. My uncle wrote an email stating that Charles and Kiara were no longer a part of the team. He got the whiff that they had died in the fire. I sighed as I wrote to him I would put them under dead people files. “Thank you,” I said as I handed the tab back. “And your father called,” she said as I was groaning. “What does he want now?” “He asked you to report back to Denmark. He said that this occupation would end after you solve this case. He asked you to take over the family business,” she said, as I frowned. Oh, I know what my father wanted. He wanted me to come back home and marry and just stay at home. “Like hell, I would do that,” I said as I was starting to walk away before my officer/caretaker/father’s bodyguard for me cleared her throat. “If you fail to comply, he will freeze everything, including your uncle’s accounts and your occupation,” she said as I turned to look at her. She blinked at me before I grunted. “We leave after I finish here,” I said as I was rubbing my face. If anything, I don’t want my uncle to take the downfall for my stubbornness. I guess I have to go back and be daddy’s little girl again.
