Charles Debrun’s POV
I did not know how long I'd been out after I saw Kiara with my eyes. I don’t know where I was but I knew that Kiara was near and that was good enough for me. I tried to roll onto my side when I moaned in pain again. I guessed I was not fully recovered.
“Charles, do not move. You’re still recovering,” Kiara said as I was still closing my eyes.
“I need to move. It’s stiffened my muscles,” I said as the small hands of hers were helping me to get up into a sitting position. I think I was in bed as I could sense the plushy mattress under my butt.
“God, you’re so heavy,” Kiara complained as I was chuckling under my pain.
“Well, you love it anyway,” I said as I was leaning against the headboard. I was huffing before I could open my eyes and saw that Kiara was wearing that expression on her face.
Concern and love.
I smiled as I looked at her face. She was not injured, sick like me. That’s a relief considering I don’t want her to cause any harm to her petite body.
“Come, eat now. You need your strength,” Kiara said as she was cooling the soup for me. She blew some air into the soup that was in the spoon before she fed me. It has been a routine for two days now since we met again.
“You should not do this,” I said as she was chuckling at my statement. I frowned.
“Well, even if you did not allow me to do it, I want to make sure that my fiancé is well before the wedding,” she stated. My eyebrows were arching at her.
“Wedding?” I asked. She nodded.
“When?”
“As soon as you’re healed and you can go to the city hall with me,” she said as she was feeding me again. I took in gallantly couldn't believe that she was trying to get me healthy so that I could marry her.
Damn it, my heart kicked started to do it now.
“Now, now, don’t rush, Charles. We still need to consider some things,” she said as she was smiling at my attempt to eat more.
“Such as?” I asked her as I was arching my eyebrows at her. She laughed.
“Hmm, since you’re a foreigner who wishes to marry me, a Swiss, we need to go to the Registry Office immediately if you wish to make me your wife. It would take up from 10 days to 3 months to get approved. But we can file it tomorrow and have a simple ceremony if you wish,” she said as she dabbed my lips with a napkin. I smirked at her.
“So you wish to be mine as soon as possible, huh?” I teased her before she cleared her throat. A blush was on her cheeks. God, I loved this woman more than my life.
“Well, you proposed. I just wanted to make things easy for you, considering your condition right now,” she mumbled before she put the soup down. She sighed as she was putting the towel into a basin that contained water and dabbed it across my forehead. I shivered at the coolness of it as I was reaching for her wrist.
“And I could not ask for anything better,” I said as I kissed her wrist. She blushed again as she was looking at my eyes.
“Shut up,” she glared at me, but her eyes stated the opposite. I smirked at her.
“You know I won’t,” I said as I pulled her in for a kiss that lingered on her lips forever.
Later that afternoon, Kiara had gone over the documents that we needed for our marriage certificate. She asked for my ID photo, passport, my birth certificate and all that stuff that I had stored online for easy access.
“Well, it is better to have soft copies any day in this modern era,” she said as she was making another list that we might need.
“And you know how to get it, my love,” I said as I was brushing my hand over her arm. She blushed as I smiled smugly. I loved it when I teased her. After that, we were in silence as I was enjoying her company.
After finishing filling up the documents that were needed for the visit to the Registry office, I don’t know when we will be able to go. I don’t think my pain will be subdued at any moment.
“Hmm,” Kiara asked as she was feeling my temperature with her hand. It sent shivers all over my body as I was yearning for her touch. It has been ages since we shared a bed.
“I think we can go to the office tomorrow,” Kiara said as I was staring at her blue eyes. They were shining with delight as I took her hand and kissed her knuckles.
“That is wonderful news.”
“I know,”
“Sleep with me tonight,” I said. She blushed as she was looking at my condition.
“Charles, I don’t think that would be a good idea as you were still recovering—“
“No, my love. I don’t mean in that way. I just wanted to sleep with you. I just want to hold you,” I said as I was gripping her hands. She looked at my face before she sighed.
“Fine, but only to sleep. I don’t want you to do anything else before you recover completely,” she said as I was kissing her lips.
“I would not think of such a thing, my love. Well, except for our wedding night,” I smirked at her as she was blushing again. And so, we slept together in the bed that I have been occupied in for days now as we just hugged each other and slept soundly.
The next day, Kiara changed her bandages and we went out of the house. Kiara drove, of course, to the registry office as she parked in front of the building. Then, she went to my side to help me to my feet before we went inside the building.
It was chaotic, I tell you, but it was early in the morning, so I did not have to wait for long. I was merely sitting on the sofa provided before we were called.
“You wish to marry?” The woman behind the counter asked us. Kiara did all the talking, in French, of course. We had all the required documents and the lady said that it would take up to 5 weeks before we put them up. We thanked the lady before exiting the building.
“Well, that went smoothly,” I said as I was clutching Kiara at my side. She was helping me to get to the passenger’s seat. She opened the door and before I could slide in, I kissed her on the lips for a while as I saw someone was eyeing my fiancée.
“You should not do that in public,” she mumbled at me, but her blush was cute nonetheless. I smirked before I saw the audience was staring at us. I don’t care. All I wanted to claim was that she’s mine.
“Just staking my claim on you, my love. So, what is on our next agenda? I gathered we’ll be going to church?” I asked her as she was nodding her head. I slid inside the car as I was grunting in pain.
“Easy now, Charles,” she mumbled before she fastened her seatbelt as she was closing the door and went to the driver’s seat. She got in and started the ignition. She shifted the stick into D and we were on our way.
We were inside the Church of St. Peter. She had arranged for a priest to bless our simple wedding ceremony with two witnesses; the boss and one of her friends.
“We’re gathered here today to see the union of these two people under the name of our Lord. They are to be a union in holy matrimony with the presence of two witnesses. Is there anyone to object?” He asked and, of course, no one was to object simply because there was no one else in this church right that.
“Do you have the rings?” The priest asked before Kiara nodded her head. Her friend came forth and presented the rings for the priest to bless. Then he turned to us to make our vows to each other. I spoke first.
“I, Charles Debrun, will cherish you, Kiara Hoffman, as long as I live, in sickness and health, in joy and vain, in rich and poor, until death takes us apart. I will cherish your love and make it the best thing ever in my life as you are destined for me,” I said as I slid the ring into her hand beside the engagement ring. Kiara was crying before she sniffed and said her vows.
“I, Kiara Hoffman, will cherish you, my love, Charles Debrun, as long as there is a breath in me in sickness and health, in joy and vain, in rich and poor, until death takes us apart. It will be my honor to be by your side as I can never be myself without you by my side,” she said as she took the ring and slid into the third ring of my left hand. I smiled at her as the priest was nodding at us.
“Now, you may kiss your bride,” he said as I put my hand on her nape and drew her closer. Her eyes were dilated as we would be sharing our first kiss as a married couple. My heart was beating fast as I put my lips on hers.
It was soft and perfect for my lips. I thrust my tongue into her mouth as she was gripping the collar of my shirt before someone cleared their throat.
“Maybe go safe for tonight when we go to bed,” Boss said as the priest laughed before Kiara was blushing hard. I thanked the priest before he blessed us for our happy lives together in the future.
I could not say it better than myself. A happy future indeed.
